On a more upbeat (essay-avoiding) note...

So, I was listening to Ben Folds' 'Rocking the Suburbs' today when something hit me: 'Losing Lisa' is strangely similar to the Beach Boys' 'Good Vibrations'. The irony is the extreme difference of the natures of the two songs. In a way, the songs could serve as the meeting and break-up songs for 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. 'Good ( Read more... )

I'm glad to hear the Dublin situation is home to you, though the TCD end of it seems dismal in comparison. We miss you here, but I can't beg you back so selfishly, alas. I'll certainly be keeping you in my prayers.

A blessed Stirrup Sunday to you, by the way. We'll be having College Christmas next Sunday, and we're decorating the chapel Friday night. So much has changed in the chapel this year, with the involvement of Father Thorne, more students, something of a real congregation--in such a short amount of time! It's really refreshing.

King's is pretty different withough FYP, though. It's exactly what you said--studying literature, philosophy, and history simultaneously, because they are an indivisable trinity. I am enjoying Hankey's "Meetings Between Hellensim, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam" for that very reason--pompous ass though he may be, Hankey knows that truth. Unfortunately, there are few classes in any of those three "separate" disciplines at Dal that even try to bridge to each other.

In the meantime, we Classics students revert to our new passtime: encourage the CSP students to give themselves cancer. It's Jamie's fault, I swear.

(By the way, I'd love to send you a Christmas card, if I may. Email me your address if you'd like one, and let me know if there's anything Haligonian you lack.)

encouraging the CSP students to give themselves cancer? by smoking, I'm assuming, because how can you study philosophy properly and be a suitably pompous arts student ass if you don't smoke like a chimney? (and yes, I know the irony of what I'm saying, what with the fact that I'm, if anything, the MOST pompous ass of an arts student, and I will light up if the situation demands.)

And who is this Jamie you speak of? My addy, my addy.. I think it's on facebook, but I'll give it to you here. (I'm not overly worried about people stealing it, because it'll cost them more than it'll irritate me.)

(It'll probably take a while to arrive if it isn't sent by airmail.. thus speaks my experience with US/Canadian/Irish cross-border post.) And is there anything Haligonian I'm missing? Well, feel free to collect notes from people, and I am kinda missing out on the Farmer's Market, but that's not going to be cheap to send in its entirety.. so whatever you feel inspired to send, be it a card or the whole of the Arm..
