Ok, so.
Dad's at a convention in LA right now. I dropped him off at the airport yesterday morning at 5am after he'd crashed at my place for the night. I just drove in to work afterward, showered and changed, and was at my desk at 5:45 am., surprisingly awake and alert.
I left about 3 to go enjoy the afternoon with Nic ... didn't have much success finalizing where to go for our camping weekend at the end of this month. At this point I'm still hopeful about securing a reservation or taking off a day or so early to try our luck at grabbing a first-come first-serve spot somewhere. But where, good question. We thought about the Metolius, but none of the campgrounds we looked up have showers, and we're not that hardcore (yet). More research today ...
I picked up a new pair of running shoes over the weekend at Portland Running Co. and was eager to give them a try, so we went up to Mt. Tabor for a brisk walk, then broke into a jog around one of the reservoirs. Our total walk was only about an hour, and the run was about a half-mile in seven minutes, but that was enough to thoroughly exhaust me. I'm planning to get serious about a running regime if I can avoid/endure the shin splints that always seem to accompany running. Everyone I know who's tried the Couch-to-5k plan proselytizes it, so that'll likely be the model I use.
I made sure to drink a bunch of water when we got back, but after dinner I felt the onset of an exertion headache, which stayed with me until past midnight, preventing any kind of restful sleep. Nic finally gave me a few tablets of melatonin she sometimes uses for insomnia, and I don't know if it was sheer exhaustion at that point or what, but they did the trick in about 10 minutes.
This morning I woke up from a dream in which I was in a banquet room at some kind of event. but I didn't recognize anyone, but it felt as if my dream-self knew the people around me. There were new cars being given away via a drawing, and I won one. Well, actually I won two, because apparently each of the car winners (eight of us) were placed in a second drawing for another new car. When my name was announced, I stood up from my table and shouted "Holy fucking SHIT!"
