So, my interview with the agent went very well on Wednesday. She loved me, thought i was a doll. But i didn't get the official "welcome to MMA" speech on account of i look 15-17 and i need to look 25-27. Yikes! I need to age 10 years in a week!
Basically, she said they'd love to represent me, i just need a new haircut, maybe revamp my wardrobe a little, new pics are a must. My current pics are "very nice to start with" but i'm not "starting" here. Once i'm represented by this agent, i'm basically a pro. They don't represent beginners. How exciting!
So, to those of you who know me and how i look, how should i get my hair cut? Way short? Keep it shoulder length? I'm tempted to lop it all off and go super short, but i'm scared that will make me look even younger! I've heard so many conflicting reports about long hair vs. short hair.
The agent said an inch or so shorter that it is now (so it's dusting the shoulder), but she was also conscious of the fact there are a lot of scams going around. She knows all the earmarks of them. And an agent who says "Cut all your hair off, make all these changes, get all new photos" can usually be considered suspicious. Soooo, i e-mailed her asking for specifics. Basically, i said i'd shave my head if it meant getting more work!
I'm going shopping tomorrow with money i don't have. But i've been promised lots of work on the next show, so it's all good.
I feel kind of bad for this agent. They are the best and most reputable in Philadelphia. I've seen all te agencies around here. They all work the same way, they represent the same people, they get the same breakdowns. This agency, MMA, is in a whole other league. How anyone could mistake them for ripoff artists is beyond me. Every other agency in the area has to offer classes, websites, etc. just to stay in business (which is usually a red flag) MMA doesn't do that. They have accounts from Boston to North Carolina and they keep a small, intimate talent base. And yet if i want a photographer recommended by them, they have to preface their recommendation with "we don't take kickbacks" and such.
The best thing she told me was "tell the photographer 'no sexy looks'!" Right away she picked up on the fact i'm not the "sexy" type. Sure i can do it, but it's not my thing. It's not my character type. There are too many girls out there who look like me and go "sexy". If i have an appeal outside that stereotype, i've got an edge on every other girl out there, in my opinion. So, i was happy to hear that.
All in all, very happy with the interview. Very relieved, even though now i have to find a new hairstyle! Yikes!
