#03. Yunho’s all too happy about a missing date, and Jaejoong is once more an opportunist.

time.

Yunho looked around the cinema’s lobby for the girl that was supposed to be his date. He sighed irritably and looked down at his watch, she was late.

Did people really have to go around and make him want to start ranting about the importance of being punctual? Yunho frowned and went over to buy popcorn. If she wasn’t going to show up, then at least he could eat what he wanted in peace.

If anything, he was rather glad that she hadn’t bothered to show up. He hated the awkward situations his mother forced him into because she thought he would look good with all of her friends’ children.

Every date ended up terribly with either an extremely awkward hug, or an even more awkward failed attempt at one, yet Yunho continued to go only because his mother refused to give him allowance if he didn’t go.

As he recalled previous failed attempts at matchmaking, Yunho cringed when he remembered the time one girl had even tried to kiss him - that had been incredibly awkward, especially after he’d practically had to wrench her off.

He took the bag of popcorn, and after he’d turned around, Yunho stopped. He squinted and tried to catch the face of the boy standing in front of the movie posters.

Was that Jaejoong?

He swallowed nervously and walked slowly to him. Yunho grasped his tickets tightly and as soon as he was a few centimetres away from Jaejoong, he tapped the boy’s shoulder.

Jaejoong turned around, and Yunho felt like slinking away. It was only when he was face to face with the inhumane gorgeousness that was Kim Jaejoong that Yunho realized how stupid of an idea it’d been to approach him without something intelligent or witty to say.

“Hi.”

Jaejoong smiled, “Hi.”

Yunho blushed and took a step back nervously. He wiped his palm on the fabric of his jeans and faced Jaejoong. He opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.

Fail.

Just as Yunho was wishing that the floor would swallow him up so that Jaejoong wouldn’t have to witness any more of the failure that was his attempt at flirting or being suave, Jaejoong smiled again.

“Are you watching something? I haven’t decided what I want to watch yet.”

“Oh.” Yunho looked down at the tickets in his hand. “Well, I’m waiting for someone actually, but -“

“Oh. I’ll just go then -“

“I don’t think she’s coming.” Yunho laughed, and he didn’t notice the relieved look on Jaejoong’s face. He held out the spare ticket to Jaejoong, “Do you want to take the spare? I don’t really like watching movies alone.”

Yunho swallowed hard and wondered if Jaejoong would reject him. After all, they hardly knew each other that well, and the most conversation they’d had were the short afternoon sessions at the library. Even then, they hadn’t talked too much and Yunho supposed it was his fault for that, seeing as it was his tendency to stare at Jaejoong more than necessary -

He was snapped out of his thoughts by the feeling of Jaejoong’s fingers brushing against his as the latter took the ticket out of his hand.

“Sure. I’d love to watch a movie with you. I don’t like watching alone either.”
o-o-o
To be honest, Jaejoong preferred to watch movies alone.

His sisters liked to comment too much about the male leads’ physical features, Junsu got scared too easily, and Changmin commented, nagged, and complained about every single flaw he saw in a film’s plot.

All Jaejoong wanted was to watch movies in peace, and then he could deal with hearing all the complaints, spazzing, and criticism after he’d finished it. Unfortunately, none of his sisters of friends could respect that, so he usually ended up watching movies alone by choice.

Yet the moment Yunho had offered, Jaejoong hadn’t even thought twice. In fact, as he held the bag of popcorn that Yunho had bought for him, he couldn’t help but blush and try to hide the giddiness he was feeling.

It was pretty much like a date, he was sure of it - and he would have to thank Yunho’s original date for not bothering to show up. Jaejoong smiled happily to himself and took the seat next to Yunho - the girl was missing out, and her loss was most definitely his gain.

For the next one hour and forty five minutes, Yunho was absolutely his.

As the minutes passed by, Jaejoong could barely concentrate on the movie at all. All he could think about was the fact that Yunho’s arm was brushing against his on the armrest, and that Yunho was even cuter whenever something exciting happened and his face lit up.

Yunho glanced at him and smiled, “How do you like the movie?” he asked quietly, inching closer and making it harder for Jaejoong to resist the overwhelming urge to launch himself at Yunho so they could make out like the couple a few seats away from them.

Instead of fulfilling his desire, Jaejoong bit his lip. “It’s okay.” He said as he glanced at the movie screen, catching sight of the heroine running away from a particularly demented looking man with a knife.

“You don’t like it?” Yunho asked as he leaned back into his chair, “If you’re scared, you can just tell me. I can hold your hand.” He added lightly.

Being the opportunist that he was, Jaejoong accepted despite the joking tone in Yunho’s voice. “Okay then.” He held up his hand for Yunho to hold, “I’m scared.”

Yunho blinked, surprised by Jaejoong’s behaviour, but he slid his hand over Jaejoong’s palm despite that. Jaejoong’s heart fluttered - Yunho’s hand was so warm and so soft.

For the rest of the movie, he couldn’t even attempt to concentrate. His entire focus was on the fact that Yunho’s hand felt so perfect against his.

As soon as the movie theater’s lights turned back on, Yunho pulled away and Jaejoong let out a small sigh of disappointment. He frowned and checked his phone for any text messages.

Where are you? You’re late!

Oh crap. He’d completely forgotten that he was supposed to meet Changmin at four, and it was currently four thirty. Jaejoong glanced at Yunho, who was checking his own phone as they walked out of the theatre.

How was he supposed to leave? Was he just going to tell Yunho that they could catch up another time, or was he going to ask -

“I have to go.” Yunho said with a slight frown.

“Oh, me too.” Jaejoong replied nervously, happy that he wouldn’t have to leave Yunho, but also a bit disappointed because it meant that his time with Yunho was over. “I was supposed to meet Changmin a few minutes ago.”

Yunho laughed, “You should go then.” He pocketed his phone, “This was fun, we should do this another time.” He smiled and took a few steps away before he waved. “Bye Jaejoong, see you on Monday.”

Jaejoong nodded and waved goodbye, too stunned by Yunho’s words to say anything intelligent. Had he heard correctly? Yunho actually wanted them to do something together again?

“Oh wait.”

He was snapped out of his thoughts again, and Jaejoong stared at Yunho, who was standing in front of him.

Yunho smiled sheepishly, “Could I have your number?” he asked, “Just...you know, so we could do something like this again, if you want to that it is, if you -“

Jaejoong took Yunho’s phone and handed the other student his own phone. “Could you give me your number too?” he asked with a blush before he began to enter his number in Yunho’s phone.

After they were both done and had given back the gadgets, they stared awkwardly at each other. Jaejoong smiled and tilted his head, hoping that he looked attractive while doing so. “I thought you were going somewhere?”

Yunho blinked twice. “Oh, right. I forgot.” He laughed. “I’ll see you on Monday.”

Jaejoong nodded, and after Yunho had left, he glanced down at his phone screen and quickly changed the ID for Yunho’s number.
