amel34 for her birthday! :)
Jaejoong hated the rain.
He frowned at it in distaste as it rolled down the glass windows of his sister’s house and wished that it would just go away. It made him moodier and more depressed than usual, and he didn’t appreciate that.
His sister set down a bowl of chips between them, “The kids are asleep.” She explained so that Jaejoong would understand why the house was much quieter than it usually was.
“Oh.” He chewed on the chips slowly and noticed that his sister was looking at him rather intensely, “Do I seem a bit different to you?”
Sohyun studied him for a few seconds, “You do.” she offered to refill his glass of water, but he refused because he wanted her explanation immediately. “You look happier, and not the way you used to look because I could always tell that was forced.”
“That’s what Yoochun said when I had dinner with him and Junsu yesterday.”
“So, what’s the reason for your happiness?” Sohyun asked carefully. She was well aware that Jaejoong didn’t like being asked too many questions, especially if they were personal ones.
Jaejoong hesitated. He stared down at the table and drew absentminded spirals on his sister’s mahogany table as he debated whether or not to tell her about Yunho.
For some reason, he’d been unable to mention to his friends that he was seeing Yunho somewhat. It was like his confidence about their relationship had evaporated completely, and he’d simply decided to tell them another time. No one else knew about their relationship aside from the two of them, and he didn’t think Yunho was confident enough about the state of their relationship to tell anyone either.
Yet for some reason, as he sat down at his sister’s dining room table, he found himself gathering the courage and confidence to tell someone about the burgeoning relationship.
He looked up at his sister, “You can’t tell anyone.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Please tell me you haven’t taken up any odd hobby or something of that sort. I can’t imagine you making garden gnomes or -“
“I’m kind of seeing someone.”
“Oh.” Her expression softened and she smiled at him warmly, pleased with his revelation. “How long have you been kind of seeing him?” “A little past a month.”
“That’s quite awhile.” Sohyun commented, “It’s longer than any other relationship you’ve had.” She said calmly, gently taking hold of Jaejoong’s hand and squeezing it so he would know she wasn’t bringing up the past in a negative light.
“He’s nice.” Jaejoong said quietly before adding, “Too nice. I don’t think I should continue seeing him. I’m too sad and fucked up for him to take care of all the time. I don’t want to become a burden to him. I don’t want him to suddenly realize one day that I’m too much of a hassle and that I’m not worth -”
Sohyun interrupted his litany of self-loathing, “You must really like him if you’re so worried about things like that in just a month.”
Jaejoong considered her words and stared at their clasped hands. “I like him. I like him a lot and more than I should at this point.”
“Take better care of yourself then so that you won’t have to worry him so often and if you like him, make sure to show him that you do.” She suggested with another gentle squeeze. “You’re a much better person than you think you are Joongie. You’re just a bit lost right now, but you won’t be forever, I’m sure of that.”
He stared up at her, “You’re too nice and patient.”
“It comes with children.” Sohyun replied before she added, “I hope you introduce me to your boyfriend Joongie. I want to see him.” She pouted, “I hope he’s not more handsome than my husband though.”
“Anyone’s more handsome than -“
“Idiot!” Sohyun smacked him, “Don’t insult my husband while you’re in our home.”
“I’m just telling the tr -“
She hit him again and made a gesture for him to leave, “Get out! Go to your boyfriend’s house!” she said, trying to look angry but failing due to the smile that was making its way across her face.
“Thank you.” Jaejoong said quietly after their laughter had died down and a lull of silence had fallen between them.
His sister smiled, “You don’t have to thank me.” She said before she reached out and squeezed his hand again reassuringly. “Now go wake up the kids so we can all bake something nice for their dad to come home to.”
Jaejoong laughed and left the table to wake up his slumbering nieces.
o-o-o
It was still raining when Yunho came over for dinner later that night.
He was slightly wet from the rain and a stole a quick kiss from Jaejoong before they had even greeted each other. Jaejoong blushed and stepped away from Yunho so that the other man could enter his apartment. Yunho looked around, and Jaejoong watched him curiously, wondering what he thought of his living space.
“It’s much cleaner than mine.” Yunho noted with a smile that made Jaejoong’s heart flutter in his chest. “I think it’s bigger too.”
“I like yours better.” Jaejoong replied as they walked to the table.
To be honest, he didn’t know why Yunho seemed rather fascinated with his apartment. Despite the messes and countless uncapped things that littered Yunho’s house, it simply felt like him. It undeniably belonged to him.
Jaejoong often felt like his apartment wasn’t his. If it wasn’t for all the pictures that littered the living space, he would probably be even more convinced of that idea. Amateur and poorly taken photographs of happy times were framed and neatly placed on the walls - the only evidence of his presence and personality in the entire apartment.
Yunho followed him slowly, taking time to look at everything that decorated the pristinely white walls. Jaejoong stopped in his tracks, walked up to him and watched as Yunho lifted up a framed photo off a table.
“Whose children are these?” Yunho asked before he glanced at Jaejoong curiously.
“They’re the kids of one of my sisters. They’re lovely children.” Jaejoong murmured adoringly as he was reminded of the events that had occurred earlier in the day. He didn’t realize he’d zoned off slightly until Yunho nudged him gently.
Yunho laughed, “You must adore them.” He placed the frame back onto the table and smiled at Jaejoong, “I should make you take some photos of me - people have told me I’m quite photogenic.”
“There’s no space.” Jaejoong replied, a smile drifting across his face. “I don’t want to take down any of the others just so I can have your face on my wall.”
“What about your wallet then?”
“I don’t think so, that’s lame.”
“What?” Yunho protested, “We’re going to a photo booth and taking couple photos. I don’t care if you’re lamed out, or if you think they’re cheesy. We’re going. I’ll make sure I have a picture of you in my wallet and that you do the same.”
“I don’t want to -“
Before Jaejoong could protest any further, Yunho had already wrapped his long limbs around him, enveloping the shorter man with his warmth. Jaejoong was pressed against Yunho’s chest, and he wrapped his arms back around Yunho, inhaling the scent of his cologne and the lingering smell of the rain.
“I’m still not putting a picture of you in my wallet,” Jaejoong murmured stubbornly as Yunho refused to let go, his grip reassuring and not too tight. “No matter how hard you try to convince me with this bear hug of yours, I’m not doing it.”
“But Jaejoong -“
Jaejoong laughed and slipped out of Yunho’s hug, although he did it unwillingly since his apartment was cold and his body immediately missed the other man’s warmth. “Come on, the food’s getting cold. You came here to eat, and not to convince me into clichéd gestures.”
Yunho followed him into the kitchen, “You prepared a lot.”
“I know.” Jaejoong muttered as he bit his lip, “I didn’t -“
“It’s fine.” Yunho replied easily, cutting into Jaejoong’s sentence in order to encourage the other to let go of his insecurities. He smiled charmingly, “Do I just sit, or is there more to prepare?”
“No, this is it.”
He sat down and Yunho sat across him, all sorts of dishes placed out on the table in between them. Yunho studied the dishes for a few seconds before he looked back up at Jaejoong, “You do realize that if I can’t go back to regular food, you’ll be in charge of feeding me for the rest of my life?”
Jaejoong’s lips quirked into a smile. “You’ll have to get in line behind Changmin, I’ve been his designated source of nourishment for quite some time.”
“Don’t I get benefits for…” he paused, and Jaejoong looked at him carefully, wondering what he would say next. It seemed as if Yunho was stuck as well because it took him a minute before he continued. “Don’t I get benefits for taking you out for coffee all the time?”
“You were the one who suggested it, not me.” Jaejoong replied as they ate, “It’s your fault for being so charitable. Unfortunately for you, I’m not the same.”
Yunho pouted, “I thought you liked me Joongie.” He said, childishly emphasizing his use of a nickname for Jaejoong.
“Not enough to make food for you daily Yunnie.”
o-o-o
Dinner was over, and he felt restless.
He frowned at the rain again through the window in front of his kitchen sink, but the frown disappeared as soon as he felt Yunho’s arms wrap around his waist. It wasn’t soon before Yunho’s chin was resting against his shoulder, and Jaejoong wished his hands were dry and free of soap so that he could turn around to hug him.
“Why were you frowning?”
“I hate the rain.”
“Oh.” Yunho unlatched himself from Jaejoong and drew the curtains so that Jaejoong couldn’t see out of the window before he returned back to having his arms around his boyfriend. “Is that better?”
Jaejoong laughed, “Yes, it’s better.”
They fell into silence, and Jaejoong had never felt so comfortable and happy in silence before. He wanted to tell Yunho how happy he made him, but he was worried he would scare him off.
He was possibly in love with Yunho, and it scared him because it was happening much faster than he had ever thought was possible.
It was scary, quick, and foreign - but it made him so much happier. It made him so happy that he felt like his heart would burst with every smile, with every laugh, with every look and just every thing about their relationship.
And no one had ever made him feel this way before.
“I visited my sister today.”
“Which one?” Yunho asked softly as he brought Jaejoong’s body closer to his.
“The one I’m closest to, Sohyun.” Jaejoong explained as he tried to focus on the dishes so that he wouldn’t drop any of them due to his overwhelming nervousness. “I told her…I told her about us if that’s okay with -“
“Of course I’m okay with it Joongie.” Yunho whispered before he placed a gentle kiss on Jaejoong’s cheek. “You can tell whoever you want.” His hug tightened and he repeated his words encouragingly, “You can tell anyone.”
“Why are you so nice?”
“I’m not that nice…in fact, I think I’m kind of selfish for stealing all your time lately. I feel like I’ve been taking too much of it.” Yunho murmured before he took the plate out of Jaejoong’s hands and set it down. He turned Jaejoong around and pressed their foreheads together, their eyes meeting instantly.
“Am I making you happy?” Yunho questioned, his breath ghosting against Jaejoong’s face. “Am I -“
Before he could get another word out, Jaejoong had already kissed him. Yunho was a little surprised at Jaejoong’s boldness, but it was welcomed a change in the latter’s personality. Their kiss broke off when Jaejoong pulled away, breathless and lips bruised from their kisses.
He smiled at Yunho, and Yunho was quite sure he’d never seen the other man look so happy and so beautiful before.
Jaejoong chuckled and hugged Yunho tightly before he spoke, his voice loud enough to resound in the quiet of the room.
“Yes, you do make me happy.” He murmured with his eyes shyly cast onto the floor.
Yunho gently took hold of his chin and tipped it up so that their eyes would meet. Jaejoong felt his breath catch in his throat as his eyes met the loving and adoring gaze present in the other man’s eyes.
Yunho’s face neared, and the rain was completely forgotten as soon as Yunho’s lips met his in a passionate kiss.

> Author’s Note: All wonderful nice and fluffy at the moment because I felt like it and because happiness is always wonderful. XD Anyway, there’s more angst/drama to follow after this brief reprieve, so I guess that’s both a warning and a preview? Hahaha. My muse is being much kinder to me lately, and I think I might post a oneshot (which may extend to a twoshot) this Saturday. It all depends on how quickly I’ll be finished with the first part. Also, it’s raining here - like in the most recently posted chapter of A Learning Process (which I highly encourage you to read if you haven’t read it yet.) XD All the rain in my most recent chapters is quite reflective of how the weather’s been over here for the past week - rainy. I do hope that you all enjoyed the chapter, and thank you for taking the time to look through my work. Comments are greatly loved and appreciated, so please leave one behind? Thank you for reading! ♥
