My google-fu is weak. I'm looking for ways a girl would have crossdressed to appear to be a boy while on a sailing ship back in the 1600-1700s. Basically, a girl is going to be pretending to be a Yeoman.

Edit: And I'd love to have historical examples. I know there were a couple of famous ones, but I can't find them.

It's the late 1970s, in London, where would a man who's not an experienced cross-dresser or in entertainment go to buy some women's shoes that fit? Would there be shops in, say, Soho that would come to his mind to go to? Would a fetish shop sell shoes? Or would it have to occur to him to ask someone who performs in drag?
