I'm writing a story set in 1720s or 30s Edo, Japan. A group of commoners get very reliable news that their friend the ronin has been murdered, but there is no body. They do, however, get his swords. My character is a Puritan girl living in New England in the early 1700s.  As a good Puritan, she reads her Bible religiously (humor, har), and I want to quote a few sections that are personally meaningful to her.  So the question is, what Bible would she be reading?  It looks like either the Geneva Bible or the King James Bible, but I'm not sure.   ( Read more... )

In the early 18th century, how were clothes kept? (I'm thinking specifically of a gentleman, here.) Was clothing more likely to be folded in drawers, or hung up in armoires/wardrobes? Were shirts and coats kept seperately? What about shoes?

I've tried looking on Google, and all I can find are sites for antiques and home furnishings.

Okay, I've spent a few hours google-ing with all my might and did find many interesting things, but nothing as precise as I'd like to.
