19th century auxiliary verbs

Mar 27, 2006 18:27

Can anyone tell me in what frequency auxiliary verbs like wasn't, can't, and don't were used in the early 19th century?

The time period I have in mind is 1800-1830, the setting is America (New England, specifically), and the speakers are upper class. Dry, boring question, I know, but it's bugging me and Google has turned up nothing.

Thanks!
