(Note to Self: Eldest Daughter is not to read this until after we break the horrible news about the truth in re: Santa.)*

So, Eldest Daughter and Eldest Daughter's friend are currently working their way through a curriculum about housing and feeding traditions. I'm not doing the curriculum myself, so I'm not entirely sure how it works, but they're ( Read more... )

I am very curious and a touch apprehensive about whether the existence of Santa is going to be a topic of conversation among Kindergarten kids. Keira has not expressed any doubts so far. I don't remember being personally traumatized--I do recall being still awake when Mom was bringing the toys from her room to the tree, and I remember some time before that finding a bunch of toys in the closet. I don't remember how old I was though, and there was no confrontation or big reveal from parents or friends.

I seem to recall being told around 10, although I couldn't pin it down exactly now. I do remember being told not to tell a younger relative, because it would distress them. Eldest didn't encounter anything at kindergarten. I'm not sure what the protocol is for the local home schoolers - perhaps I should inquire.

Neither my sister nor I were traumatized upon finding out. My brother (who is the youngest), on the other hand, was extremely unhappy upon finding out and nearly threw a tantrum that year (mostly pouting, not wanting to do any celebrating, attempting to destroy our giant stuffed santa that was as big as i was....), that sort of thing. Might have something to do with being both the youngest and the only boy, and thus also being hyper spoiled/catered to by everyone in the family (including myself of course). He was fine by the next year, though.

Yeah, Brian's beer is good! No, I mean I don't think I had the fruits of the brewers I knew in high school. Because I was too young.

Yes, I believe I will still be there in January, week of the 9th. I'll be keeping an eye on the weather, closer to then, though.

hapaxspouse has been brewing his own beer for (counts on fingers) my goodness, over twenty years now. He makes me a lovely porter, based on Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter, and usually makes a very hoppy pale ale for himself, sort of like McEwans. But he's experimented with everything from stouts to fruit-flavored ales ( ... )
