Drabble for bane-6 (Hellsing)
And this is the second challenge I've completed for the meme. (Totally not a proper drabble - I'm just not that economical.)
A Hellsing scene for Bane-6. Speculative AU set immediately after the events going on in the current Hellsing canon, featuring (and being slightly shippy for) Walter and Seras. Yes, Pip, I know. Hush.
Iteration
The battle over, the excitement and suspense spent, Walter stared at his reflection in the spiderwebbed window of a once proud Roller. He sighed, reaching up to smooth down a few jet black flyaways.
This was not at all fair. He'd worked a lifetime for dignity and a little grey - and here the mad doctor and the werewolf had stuck their noses into his life and taken it all away. Looking like this, he was bound to be called into petty action at every turn. Twenty years of butlering, advising and general chumming about with Integra had come to a most unexpected end.
He had drawn himself up tall and was looking down his proud nose at his cracked reflection, when he sensed a presence at his side.
"I'm glad you're back with us, Walter... You look amazing, if I may say so."
It was not the voice he'd expected. He turned to find little Seras Victoria grinning across at him, with a very slightly predatory air. Instantly he realised why he'd mistaken her presence for Alucard's. "Clearly I am not the only one changed by these events," he observed. "Might I say that you, also, look positively smashing?"
She smiled at the ruined pavement with pleasant unease. "Thank you, Walter."
Her manner brought the cheer back to his face. Whatever else she might have become, she had kept that shining thread of brave young police girl. Just maybe it wouldn't be so bad, earning his grey over again with his dear Miss Victoria at his side, teaching her all those things her Master could not.
