Seeing as we are all so very, very poor, Red, Riley and I (the Sisters of Saint Jude) don't buy one another Christmas presents. We agreed years ago that we all have way too many other people we need to get gifts for.
Instead, we exchange handmade gifts. Fanmixes, little notebooks made with craft paper and ribbon lying around the house, that sort of thing. Just small, creative stuff.
This year, I wrote a original short story for each of them. Riley's is a 'faerie tale' centering around two high ranking soldiers in the army of the Unseelie Court. Red's is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet told from the perspective of Mercutio, or rather, Mark.
I finished them tonight (I managed to rescue the documents, as well as "Closing Time" and Katt's favour, from my poor, sick laptop -- small mercies!), and as I scan through them now, I think I'm quite pleased with the results. These are the first pieces of original fiction that I've finished in a goodly while. I'm paranoid about them though, and will end up editing the crap out of them over the next couple days in the hopes that they'll end up being half-way decent. And this would be where I stop with the self-deprecation. They'll be edited, they'll be fine, and hopefully Red and Riley will enjoy them.
After that though, it's time for Katt's favour and "Closing Time" to get attention.
Batten down the hatches, y'all. Shit's about to get real.
