steinbeck tattoo, rackham tat question!

Hi friends! I love this community, so many beautiful tattoos with great stories behind them.

I got my first tattoo last winter, a version of Steinbeck's pigasus seal on the inside of my ankle. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors, but beyond that I love what the pigasus represents, "earthbound but aspiring... a lumbering soul but trying to fly." Plus a few other personal inspirations. It's a tiny tattoo, but it means a lot.

I think I just decided what my second tattoo will be, but I have a few questions about placement and the logistics. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I was searching for an Arthur Rackham illustration of Peter Pan, when I came across this one of The Bremen Town Musicians.

If you're unfamiliar with the fairytale, it's about a group of outcast animals traveling together to form a band. A donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster. They stop at a cottage to scare off a group of robbers, and end up staying to live together, happily ever after, of course. I want this as a tattoo for several reasons. First,I work in animal rescue and love the story of a bunch of cast-off pets banding together. I've been trying to think of a way to get a dog tattoo that wasn't corny/cutesy, and I think this is it. I like that in the story they're beaten down, "ugly" animals who become friends and find their happiness together. Also, I'm just a huge fan of Arthur Rackham's work.

So here's my big question... I'm a fat girl and my weight fluctuates, so I'm wary of getting a large tattoo on my body. But I think this one needs to be kind of big, to get the detail in the silhouette. How much do tattoos warp as skin stretches? I was thinking this would look lovely over my ribs, but I do have some insulation there. Would a shoulder be better?

Also, my first tattoo is a little outline, only took twenty minutes and hardly hurt at all. This would be significantly larger, filled in, and if its on my ribs, I'm sure more painful. So uh... how much will this hurt? Be honest.

Thanks in advance, booknerds!
