(no subject)

Nov 03, 2007 00:11

I declare this week a do-over. As I haven't worked out a reality that is quite that temporally subjective, I've resigned myself to coming back to my mother's place, and wandering around in leggings, and generally looking like an wretch, albeit one stylishly clothed in the best of hiking gear. And American Apparel, or at least soon; yay spending money, I suppose. (That would be a compound noun, not a verb. Subtle differences.)

In intellectual news, Steven Pinker is smart, my brain is tired.

Alex Suarez: International Man of Mystery. I previously had "suarez alex suarez" listed as a unique interest, but seriously, it may have to go back in. He is cautious with his on-the-vine tomatoes! He buys table wine! He styles the food! I am not sure that I could manage that much garlic, but I suppose it works; de gustibus non est disputantum, ecetera.

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

I was tagged by suckmyglock and I promised her the seven BEST country ballads of all time. I do poorly with symbolic concepts.

Josh Turner;Lord Have Mercy On A Country Boy. I will not lie, this track is sort of...worn out on my copy of the cd. And even though he has funny werewolf teeth, (I AM SORRY, THEY ARE OBVIOUS) I totally want Josh Turner to win the CMA for best male. How do I even know these things? I like this track though; it's the whole "woe and betide modernity" thing, but it is twangy. I love the super-deep voice that Turner has, as well. Ugh, so sexy, I can't even.

Carrie Underwood; Jesus Take The Wheel. Okay, two summers ago, I was living in Utah, and this song was always, always, always on every single radio station. It was a little wearing. Then I caught the video, and oh, my, Carrie Underwood is such a cutie. And I stopped hearing the song so much (I think Miranda Lambert had a new album out, and I did not feel so bad about disliking her songs, when they were played all the time, I suppose.) This is so achingly sincere, come on.

Loretta Lynn; Harper Valley PTA. Suck on that, Jack White. Somewhat more seriously, this is on my "kicking ass, taking no names" playlist, and some day, there will be discussion of how awesomely feminist Lynn is, and why it's totally logical to want her rockingly sparkly dresses.

Dolly Parton; Jolene. I am not explaining myself. I do not care that it isn't really a proper ballad, it is an awesome song. THE END!

Johnny Cash; The Streets of Laredo. It's a cover, yes, but it is a ballad. I realised that I had to weight this a little; my country music is almost all sung by women, and that's not quite fair, is it? Plus, Johnny Cash. Your man in black of choice approves! angevin2 reminds me it belongs to a family of ballads about syphilis, so, you know, that is a bonus.

Sarah Evans; Suds in the Bucket. There may be a sense of humor present here! Hooray! I really like Evans' singing, and she always does cool make-up. Or, well, okay, I suppose once one has been exposed to Ryan Ross, it's not that edgy, but I quite like the white mascara.

Kinky Friedman; They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore. This is, quite possibly, the most gloriously retarded song of all time. I debated putting another serious song on here, but I realised that there was more than enough sincerity for a lifetime here. So, silliness.

And, now, the seven songs I am currently actually hitting repeat on.

Speechwriters LLC; CHBB. Lo-fi indie pop! Eee, it makes me happy. Plus, these dudes are so chill, I kind of want to hang with them, and talk about politics and surfing. What. It is my fantasy.

New Found Glory feat. Patrick Stump; King Of Wishful Thinking. It heals my soul. Every single time. Joyous, awesome, and totally romantic break-up song.

Bellowhead; Jordan. This is one of my favourites; it's somewhat atonal, but has really good musicianship behind it. Plus, there's the post-modern gospel binary; "do we really have to?" Which is interesting in its own right, but more so in this, with a sort of mournful dance to it. ETA, 11:10 am: I am aware that this doesn't make a huge amount of sense. However, since I have no idea what I was trying to say, I can't explain it.

The Dresden Dolls; My Alcoholic Friends. And yet, I am noticing a strong trend here. Making bad decsions? Check. Lots of sound? Check. Awesome? Definitely check. It's another funny song about being drunk! Hurrah.

The Flaming Lips; Do You Realize?? So much joy. I love this band, even if they are simply a latent excerise in dada, and this is just such a happy song. Synthesisers! Bells! It's really really good.

Alkaline Trio; Mercy Me. It's the right time of year? I listen to them year round, though, so I suppose that doesn't really work. Still love them all. This song is particularly chilling, and very good.

Cobra Starship; The City Is At War. I am giving no reasons. I made that post last week. Also, I am sleepy now; links are hard!

I suggest that you all do this, and I will totally keep uploading songs if othet people play. I particualrly tag notthegnomes, faded-lilac, saramir, littlelightbulb, angevin2, and culurien. And I'm also bullying _avenues into this, as a welcome.

Gah.
