I am going to stab someone in the face. Or something equally gruesome; I've been working on revenge fantasies all morning.
In better news. Dominion of Canada! \o/ For
faded-lilac, who has put up with several very sullen and uncommunicative evenings.
So, some of you have heard that I occasionally dabble in fandoms that perhaps, peripherally, involve Canda. By which I mean I am completely helpless to resist the siren call of due South and every-goddamn-thing associated with it. I am serious. Six Degrees, much? YES. Okay, so that's not actually a valid theory, but, ooh, look!
Callum Keith Rennie is really sexy, isn't he?
I am awesome at distractions. Here's a Paul Gross!
I like to make nice transitions. Here, Kowalski and Fraser read fanfiction. Like we will be doing shortly!
By Any Other NameDue South by
lmondgreenThey are so devious! Fun Mounties. Turnbull and Fraser, hooray.
Head Trip seriesDue South by
lamardeuseOh, my. Heart-hurting, and ultimately totally rewarding post-"Call of the Wild" fic. Oh, Fraser. Oh, Kowalski. This is beautiful and charming, and everything that is perfect in the world.
The Sweet HereafterDue South by
china-shopThis is awe-inspiring, and sort of makes me want to put my pen down and throw my hands up. Brilliantly rendered, and really smart. The Frasers swap bodies, and Kowalski has to sort out what that all means, in addition to solving a crime, and trying to romance Fraser Junior. It's a cracky premise, but it breaks my heart, what family and love will do to a person, and what Benton Fraser will give up for it all, and what Ray Kowalski has to do. Wonderful, wonderful family interactions, annoying Mounties and really clever dialouge.
It's Like This Old Inuvit Story I KnewDue South by
rageprufrockLORD. I love this story; Ray's not losing it, Fraser is charming, and there are meddlesome relations. Such a brilliant little humour fic.
Ray's Inuit StoryDue South by
mondschein1Delightful, so wonderful. Inuit throat-singing, and buddy-breathing, and lots of sweet and wonderful. I adore this so much. Kowalski, you win. Fraser, you also win. Hearts!
At Every Corner Have Them KissSlings and Arrows by
troyswannThis is wonderful like a highly wonderful thing. Geoffrey tells the story of a particuarly awful show, and there is Darren, and hapless bystanders, and lots of wonderful in-character media, and veryvery clever comments on the actual play, and the hapless leads, and it's all a wonderful disaster. I really like the multimedia feel of this; it feels like it might have actually happened, and this is jsut going through the box. I adore everyone a lot more, having read this, and this is long and clever, and very witty. Oh, there are not even words.
Outrageous FortuneSlings and Arrows by
corinna-5So good! Kate and Jack go down to LA, and instead of tearing them apart, it all comes together, through a tremendously fitting rendition of a certain play. Really very good, and literary, and in-character. All over clever.
A sad tale's best for winterSlings and Arrows by
justbreathe80Everything goes wrong. Nice bits of foreshadowing, and fairly clever. Okay, so fine, it rips my heart apart, and shatters me.
Now Heaven Hath AllCrossover: Slings and Arrows/Due South by
nos4a2no9This is terribly brilliant. Geoffrey Tennant takes on a unique job, and suffers from an extraordinary resembelance to Benton Fraser. Very clever meta, and I adore the way that this could go. Totally delicious.
Okay, I preface this set of recs with two ideas. One, I recently saw Wilby Wonderful for the first time. And then again. And again. And again. I think. Two, I am a huge sap, so whatever, I like Duck and Dan an awful lot. (Also, oh,
this melts my heart.)
Upon A Midnight ClearWilby Wonderful by
nos4a2no9This is the most adorable thing since ever. Duck and Dan, with backstory, and then kisses, and love, and it's so very perfect.
PossibleWilby Wonderful by
slidellaThey are not made entirely of issues. Sweet, sexy Duck and Dan. I love them so very very much.
The Epiphanies of Dan JarvisWilby Wonderful by
oxoniensisI may have something of a huge crush on Dan. Finally coming together, after the movie has smoothed it all out. I am so serious, and this is so good.
Still LifeWilby Wonderful by
isiscoloReally good, non-linear, very clever. I adore Duck and Dan. Wow, like I have not said that a thousand times, but it bears reiteration.
Last CigarettesWilby Wonderful by
brooklinegirlSmoking is such a thing, and this so works. Mellow, and charming. I especially like Duck's perceptivity.
The LightsWilby Wonderful by
cesperanzaDeeply sad, yet a little wonderful. Wilby Watch, before everything, and it's achingly sad, and quite good. Much like the film, it's unrelentingly unsympathetic and very miserable, right until the end. Also, the moral is that Duck MacDonald is quite possibly, the best thing in the world ever. Which is pretty much empirically true.
untitled snippetWilby Wonderful by
pearl-oEmily is adorable, and this is awkward and uncertain. A win.
In the Quiet Moments of the NightWilby Wonderful by
visionshadowsPerfect missing scene. Emily and Duck, after the motel. Again, Duck= AWESOME.
Third NightWilby Wonderful by
lalejandraCompletely perfect Duck and Dan. Sentences, and they say so very much. I am enjoying brevity for once, here.
Slow DaysWilby Wonderful by
lalejandraFeeling and slow; it means everything.
Living The Honest LifeWilby Wonderful by
ignazwisdomReally very good; balanced between angst and delight. I like how there's so much more here than the action, and it reads realistically and so fitting for these two.
New World ComingWilby Wonderful by
tigsOkay, so I have read this about eight million times, but that does not mean that I will stop, or anything. After the movie ends, everyone copes in a slightly different way. I am very much enamored of all the characters, but especially the opening ones, with Sandra and Carol, who usually don't feature in fic that often. (ps fandom, change this. I will give you some loose change and a cookie.) Or, actually, I really like all of it, the casual moment between Mackenzie and Emily, the devotion evident in Buddy's actions, and of course, the final section with Duck and Dan.
I am still going to go for the pointy sticks, but perhaps I will be able to hold off until I find someone whom I actually dislike. Coding is very therapeutic. As is actual therapy, I hear. (Whee, I have my first session tomorrow afternoon. Perhaps there will a change from the "All Whine, All the Time" station that this journal is currently set to.)
ETA, 5:08 pm: Fuck. My appointment got cancelled, and I'm on a crying jag, and I need to be less fucked-up than this. Goddamn fucking brain chemistry. In the interest of making this vaguely interactive, tell me about something awesome, in comments. Or if you like, recommend me something to read so I can stop with Wilby Wonderful and with over-identifying with Dan Jarvis.
