So, after the last, semi-coherent, mostly-drunken post, I decided to actually attempt making sense. It's a new thing for me; tell me how it goes!

Two days later, he still didn't know, which really, Rodney thought bitterly, was par for the course in this relationship, where he spent most of it baffled and then sometimes was baffled while naked.

AU, where John is an English professor, Rodney a physics one. They live together quite peaceably until Rodney's students begin making his life hell. It is adorable and chuckle-inducing and sweet, and it makes me want to run off into the sunset with academia. Funny, delightful, I am nearly lost for words here. John is contrary as an ox, Rodney is a wonderful steam-roller, and oh, I cannot contain my joy. Written for 14_valentines and wow, go check it all out.

“It’s not much good for that,” agreed Grishnakh reluctantly. “It’s really only meant for shooting people in the back when they’re running away. But that’s all I want you to do. Leave the confrontation to us. As I said, we can handle it all by ourselves...”

“No, give me a proper weapon - or I’ll use Glamdring.”

Who Knackered Aragorn's Catamite?
Lord Of The Rings by Earthspot
This is a very entertaining story, with a dash of drama and mystery and sex. After the War of the Rings, with the commodification of everything, someone turns up rather inconveniently dead. As these things always do, it is exactly at the wrong moment. Goss, the hero, reads like a character right out of a Raymond Chandler story, all hard-boiled tough, which matches wonderfully with the over-blown rhetoric of the canon. With the bodies piling up, the attractive ladies coming pretty fast, and a need to exonerate himself and his closest friends, Goss handles it all with aplomb. He makes gifts of body parts, makes friends with orcs, intrudes on interpersonal conflicts, and goes to the Hotel Doom. This enraptures me partly because it presents all manner of cracky and weird things as pretty straightforward, like, of course, Aragorn would be George IV, and Goldberry would engage in sort of skeezy sex-work, and okay, it makes sense in context! I really like that blend, and of course, Goss is a great character to follow around.

I sort of wish I had a theme, besides AWESOME, today.
