Lovely is one of my favourite crossovers ever. Martha also writes some really skookum SGA fic, as well as being by far my favourite TS author ever, and I'm crazy huge into that fandom.

I've reread "Lovely" a few times, and always have to take a break about three-quarters of the way though to sniffle madly. It just sort of knocks me over. I'll have to check out the rest of her (?-I presume) fics, now, though.

I am a loser at media fandom, because I came in too late to catch TS, and whatever its merits as a show, it has an awesome fandom which I've just never really gotten into. Help me see the light, here?

Go read her fics on that site, especially "Ordeal" and "Snake Oil" Man can that woman write horror! Then check out her stuff over at Wraith Bait, especially "Moka."

If you're looking for good TS stuff (I got into this show through fandom first and reruns later), try reading Jael Lyn (Especially "Outside These Walls, Saoirse (Especially "Controlled Glide"), T. Verano (Especially "New").
I have a love hate relationship with this fandom. About 75% of the time, it really pisses me the fuck off on a number of levels., but the rest is
golden.

Whee, I am really excited, now. So much fic, and it's all so long! I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

TS seems to be problematic fandom, for a lot of reasons. There's a pervasive anti-feminine feel, which is sort of endemic in older slash, I think (maybe? that's a somewhat mean generalization, self.) But there are some really excellent stories, and just reading the fanfiction, and ignoring the fandom otherwise is heartless, but it seems to work. Unless there's a different qualm you have...

Thank you so much for the recs!

I didn't bother to clarify there-not just older slash, but in many older fandoms, it seems that the 'other' be they female/black/choose your own sort of get ignored or vilified.

I know what you mean! And it's kinda sorta supported by canon (except that minor while male characters seem to end up getting more attention than major female or non-while characters). What really pisses me off is that the same thing often happens in modern fandoms, where there is no canon support for it.

Everything I linked to is Gen. If you want slash, I'll try to dig some up, but frankly slashing those two seems a bit redundant. By fandom, I mean fic, as that's really all I know of it ( ... )

Which is me venting, sorry.

I've not seen the canon here, but yes, the smidges of vids/dialog lead me to believe that it's sort of, uh, difficult to interpret them any other way. Gen does not get enough love, at any rate, and I am delighted with it.

Ah, yes, you've reminded me of all the things that drive me crazy in TS fiction. When I first got into it, having few canon clues, but knowing that it took place in a modern-day police force, I figured that there would be lots of women, what with fellow cops and various people to save. I was surprised, because it seemed as though this fandom had just junked out on the shiny toys, and ignored anyone who wasn't Jim or Blair. I had no idea that it was quite that frustrating, though- only four female characters? Who seem to fit into neat little types, which is not really fandom's fault, but still, that's not fair.

I like Jim easy going, Blair courageous, both of them smart and funny, and neither of them angels. Excellent- I can see that once I get to read your recs, I am going to love them. It feels odd to be saying ( ... )

There weren't a lot of women. Carolyn was the forensics officer in season one. Then there was an Aussie detective in the later seasons, also some reoccurring minor forensics officers, Blair's mother, a reporter, the evil chancellor of the university, an evil sentinel. Lots and lots of Babes of the Week. The show was pretty much about Jim and Blair, with a side of their boss Simon. On the bright side, there were three African American characters, Simon and two detectives, and a First Nations coroner. They usually do fairly well in fanon ( ... )

Thank you so much for this little overview; now I will actually understand why things are happening, which is pretty cool. Yay, the fics will make more sense, and I will not just rely on context clues.

The whole show was incredibly left wing. That's kind of rad, especially if Jim is the one who comes across as all "conservative" but is still totally this liberal-thinking guy. I should be quiet, because I'm not really sure what I'm talking about, now.

I am even more excited for the recs you gave me, but it's still the middle of the week, and I will totally not get to read them for a little bit.
