There weren't a lot of women. Carolyn was the forensics officer in season one. Then there was an Aussie detective in the later seasons, also some reoccurring minor forensics officers, Blair's mother, a reporter, the evil chancellor of the university, an evil sentinel. Lots and lots of Babes of the Week. The show was pretty much about Jim and Blair, with a side of their boss Simon. On the bright side, there were three African American characters, Simon and two detectives, and a First Nations coroner. They usually do fairly well in fanon.
Very often in fanon, Jim is portrayed as being really, really tightly wound and over baring, which I never saw, really. I mean he's rather type A, and he does have a tendancey to bounce people off walls when he's really stressed, but usually, he's pretty laid back. He likes to eat good food, go fishing, hang out with his friends, and watch/play basketball. He may be ex-military, but he's university educated, and is actually more of a new age sensitive guy than anything else. The whole show was incredibly left wing.
Blair is your classic trendy hippy Anthropologist (note, both the police procedure and Anthropology as seen on the show are pretty appalling). He was raised by a flower child who could never stay on one spot for very long, so he saw the world from a young age. Man, can the guy talk. He may freak out a bit in the face of guns and what not, but he's smart, brave and adaptable. He will willingly put himself into danger to save... just about anyone, even though he's terrified, and he can usually do it with such a plan that he pulls it off too.
Both of them run through Babes of the Week like they're going out of style, and seem to spend most or all of their time off in each other's company.
Thank you so much for this little overview; now I will actually understand why things are happening, which is pretty cool. Yay, the fics will make more sense, and I will not just rely on context clues.
The whole show was incredibly left wing. That's kind of rad, especially if Jim is the one who comes across as all "conservative" but is still totally this liberal-thinking guy. I should be quiet, because I'm not really sure what I'm talking about, now.
I am even more excited for the recs you gave me, but it's still the middle of the week, and I will totally not get to read them for a little bit.
