Okay, we all know I am a bit obsessed with various sci-fi and fanstasy books/movies/tv shows. Right, maybe "bit" is the wrong adjective. They've totally taken over my brain. In a sort of "haha, we rule your thoughts" kind of way

Hee! I'm not so much about the supernatural stuff, but I'm so used to reading Star Trek fics, that anything set on terra firma without aliens in it almost bores me. Well, of course not if it's well done, but come on, can't they have just *one* green or blue or bumpy-headed person? Or refer to warp drive? Something? LOTR-reading jaunts have me wanting Elvish culture in everything.
Do you ever go around in real life referring to things by fiction names? My sister and I are always saying things like "OK, we'll take the turbolift...I mean elevator," or "Oh, wow, that painting/light fixture/jewelry is gorgeous! Elvish crossed with Bajoran, wouldn't you say?"
There definitely should be more aliens around, even if there's no reason whatsoever for their presence. It would make the sci-fi inclined among us feel much safer. Plus, I mean, why wouldn't you want a big and intimidating green being lurking about? Or maybe even something suitably LOTR-ish, possibly elvish? A few arrows, maybe some of the slight and fine jewelry/clothing/whatever?
Ah, I know exactly what you mean. Turbo- lift is a much cooler expression than elavator anyway.
Yes! I'm more at home around aliens than humans sometimes. Went to church one day after having been soaking in DS9 and was shocked, shocked! to see that the entire gathering was human--not a Cardie or a Bajoran among 'em!
Turbolift just has a ring to it. As do phaser, or replicator...
Did you ever hear "The Billboard Song"? It's about someone reading an old billboard that's had many layers of ads posted on it, and they've ripped away so that you get things like, "Smoke Coca-Cola cigarrettes! Take your next vacation in a brand new Frigidaire!" Well, we filked that into a Trek version...ought to post it sometime. Much fun. :D
It really is shocking how humanoid this planet is. The aliens must be somewhere here. Maybe not at church, but they're somewhere here! They've got to be! I refuse to believe that they aren't.
Phaser. Just hearing that word makes me feel all fuzzy and comforted. Not because of what it is, but there are so many fun connotations of phasers, I just have to love that word. But I have to say, applying geographical concepts is the most fun. "I'm going into the West! I shall live among the elves!" is a favorite of mine, especially since, well, west of me is generally out into an ocean.
No, I've not heard "The Billboard Song" but I shall look foward to this filk. It has tremendous entertainment value, clearly.
I shall post the filk (and the original, probably) to my LJ right away. :) I think it will amuse several people.
Read a Back to the Future/LOTR crossover once (rather good, actually, as the author is a mad fan of both who loves doing research) in which Doc Brown, who lives in California, is trying to explain where he comes from to Gandalf. Gandalf's all, "Er, the West? You come from Valinor? Why don't I know you, then? You're not an Ainu or an Elf, but on the other hand you're just a *bit* off from most of the other Men around here...hmmmm."
