Title: Tried Your Methods
Author: lit_luminary
Rating: PG
Tune: "The Patterns of Amber" sung by Heather Alexander.
Summary: Parting words from House to Nolan at the end of "Baggage."

A year I’ve tried your methods, and I’ve found that they’re not working.
Don’t sit there and try to tell me ‘Give it time,’ or that I’m shirking.
You promised me that with effort, I could attain happiness-
But despite all that effort, I’m still a miserable mess.

Remember back in Mayfield, through the detox and the crazy-
When you promised me therapy would clarify what was hazy?
Now I cannot help conviction that was all a pack of lies,
A kind of feel-good hokum that’s now stripped of its disguise.

I’ve put up with the idiocy of your prying questions;
I’ve swallowed my distaste and made myself take your suggestions.
But I’ll tell you the outcome: that any peace I’m still denied.
So if there is a solution-it’s not one that I have tried.

I’ve given this my best shot; the rewards others are reaping.
Just take a look at Wilson and at the company he’s keeping!
That’s what comes of social rules and of my trying to play nice-
And I can’t think for a second the result was worth the price.

[Instrumental break.]

Don’t tell me ‘Try again,’ for all my patience has expired.
Let me tell you: it’s my pleasure to inform you that you’re fired.
(But I’m still trapped in the mire that I was trapped in before,
And I don’t know if it’s even worth escaping anymore.)

filks, house
