the way you make me feel

I know there are a fuck ton of posts about this right now but I have to interject with this:

For me, it's so much about the loss of dance. I think of how much dance I've gotten from him and his music and that's why I'm kind of ripped up right now. You can't go to a dance competition without hearing him, I can't take a set of convention classes ( Read more... )

It's sad, it is. And it's shocking and he was hugely prominent and important to the music industry. But he left a legacy and that's not going to change. He's not going to stop making people move because he's not here, DJs aren't going to stop playing his music when a girl asks for 80s music, people aren't going to stop being inspired by his music or by him as a dancer, he will always be groundbreaking; his death isn't going to change anything - his life did.

This is probably not going to sound right, but even though he had the tour planned (I heard it had been cancelled already? idk, if not I was still concerned that he wasn't fit enough to play 50 stadium dates), I think that in terms of new contributions, people lost him a long time ago. He's had a lot of health problems and his status to people has been resting on the past for a long time. I think that a lot has been lost for a long time, is what I'm saying. But the impact he HAS made never will be.

And I'm sad for the people who looked up to him, too. Because I do know how that feels - to both look up to someone, obviously, and for someone who's brought something important to you into your life to die suddenly. I was absolutely crushed when one of the Frasier creators died in Sept 11th. I mean, I don't know what I'd have done without that show, and without him I'd never have had it, so. It's a personal thing.

God, I know. Half my flist was. And GOD, John Spencer from The West Wing - he died when they were shooting the last few episodes and it was horrible. They had to rewrite the shit out of it (they even changed the outcome of the election) and the character died and it still breaks my heart every time I see his name in the credits. It was surreal to see it play out on screen when it had actually happened, he was actually gone :(
