the way you make me feel

I know there are a fuck ton of posts about this right now but I have to interject with this:

For me, it's so much about the loss of dance. I think of how much dance I've gotten from him and his music and that's why I'm kind of ripped up right now. You can't go to a dance competition without hearing him, I can't take a set of convention classes ( Read more... )

God, I loved that scene from Centerstage. It made me absolutely obsessed with the song.

We've always been acutely aware of the fact that we have to deal with the deaths of people we love sooner or later. I've been blessed thus far to not have an immediate family member pass, so most of my death experiences have been with celebrities. Princess Diana. Aaliyah. Heath Ledger. And it's so weird that humans with whom we've only had contact via electronic boxes can mean so much to us. I don't want to deal with the day that Hugh dies. That will be a bad day.

I so understand what you mean, his music - his dance has been so influential. I just think it's crud that the media is going to play this like they've LOVED HIM ALL THIS TIME. When we all know they haven't put him in a good light lately. I have one friend who just actually made a silk-screen shirt last day of classes (she really does love him, she even has records and actually fan collections of his career). FUCKING TORN. I was helping her make that shirt too; you talk about him and dance, and here I am talking about art, he's just that piece of magic. My dad and I are probably going to break out one his concert DVD's later. And jeeze, I remember winter in Elementary, when a couple of us would try to do the moonwalk on ice... just. IDEK. Devastating. He will be missed.

I don't think it matters whether you're a dancer or not, it is impossible not to dance to his music. My dance teacher was a huge MJ fan, and we would always, without fail, warm up to his music. He is always played at parties and dances, and it always gets people on the floor.

It's sad, it is. And it's shocking and he was hugely prominent and important to the music industry. But he left a legacy and that's not going to change. He's not going to stop making people move because he's not here, DJs aren't going to stop playing his music when a girl asks for 80s music, people aren't going to stop being inspired by his music or by him as a dancer, he will always be groundbreaking; his death isn't going to change anything - his life did ( ... )

God, I know. Half my flist was. And GOD, John Spencer from The West Wing - he died when they were shooting the last few episodes and it was horrible. They had to rewrite the shit out of it (they even changed the outcome of the election) and the character died and it still breaks my heart every time I see his name in the credits. It was surreal to see it play out on screen when it had actually happened, he was actually gone :(

Even though he went a little crazy later in his life, it's just such a huge loss.
