While I didn't care at all that Adam lost and I was incredibly happy for the both of them, it did hit me (weirdly enough, while I was doing the dishes) that America once again, failed.
Like, I'm really glad that Kris is going to definitely get THE contract, because I knew it was a for-sure thing with Adam. But then I thought of how Adam represented ROCK as a whole. For bands like Queen, Journey, KISS, people like David Bowie...Freddie Mercury. George Michael even. Just good musicians in general back when I wasn't even a fetus yet. I almost started crying. While doing the dishes. Which is fucking stupid. But...America...(not you, and millions of other awesome Americans) but those who can't get it, those who will always stick for boaring ass shits like Danny Gokey, and those who voted for Kris only because he was more consevative than Adam...
THAT America FAILS.
The only thing that makes me happy is how much Adam seems happy for Kris. How Kris seemed utterly shocked. How awesome tonight was. The only disappointment I had tonight was with Americans who are so into their inner self, that they can't accept Ch-ch-ch-changes :P
Other than that, I LOVED tonight. I wished for more than anything to have been there. Seeing Allison and Adam reunited. Seeing how close Adam and Kris have become. Seeing how proud Adam and Allison were for Kris. I cried so much when Queen came out. Paul Rogers wasn't even there, was he? I just cried. Especially because all I could think of was Adam representing the Freddie Mercurys of the world.
Okay, I'm starting to sound stupid. I'll shut up now XD
Also, in regards to your last paragraph; it's still there. I really do think Adam, even if he didn't win, will bring out those people who aren't afraid to change things. Adam once mentioned how he owes David Cook because, it was Cook who started changing things up last year. It was then he realised that, hey-it's possible for America to actually be open to changes. Which was partly why he had no qualms about joining.
People like Adam are everywhere, and I think it will be because of him, AI might be rather interesting in auditions. I think people will start feeling more confident. Every year whenever a new musical genre pops up and pushes the others away, there is always that place where...the unusual is accepted. The guitar-smashing, the screaming wails, the crazy costumes...they're there. Everytime I see little kids looking up to Queen, dressing up like Cyndi Lauper, singing songs to Bowie, or any of those hard-core bands, I know that this will never leave. I don't see rap having that longevity that Rock and Roll has.
Punk/Pop bands, hip-hoppers, pop artists, rock bands...all of them cite those awesome people as their inspirations. And even if they don't sound like them at all, there are those who bring into heart these artists who got them into music in the first place. That's the great thing about them. :)
I hope you cheer up a bit. :) While there are times even I lose all faith in humanity (and this is just in the arts and culture part), something always pulls me back in. I think that means that those brilliant over-the-top people who aren't afraid still have those long-lasting effects on anyone from any generation.
