I love her I love her I fucking love her."When I come to see conventions and I come to teach them, I'm interested in seeing the individual and the uniqueness of each person. So I'll GIVE you phrases and I'll GIVE you movement but it's really about you transforming it into what your vocabulary is and what your voice is. Because your voice is so. ( Read more... )

OMG I looked her up on Youtube and I had no idea she choreographed the "Bleeding Love" dance on SYTYCD. That was the first time I ever watched SYTYCD and it BLEW me away. I was drunk when I saw it and I still remembered it the next day so that is saying alot. It made me look at dance differently like I dont know how to describe it, like it's dancing to the lyrics and not the beat. I dont know if that makes sense but it made me see that dance play's out the song and what it stands for instead of just moving your body to the beat. If that makes sense or not.

This is why, exactly why, I named my computer Mia.
THIS. It is so perfect. Like, you look at this entry and the talk about determination and drive and creativity. YOUR Mia is your outlet for everything that her namesake stands for. This is how you unleash a lot of that creativity and passion and drive. It's fitting that you named your computer after something that's such a source of inspiration ♥

And all of this is just beautiful. God.

Oh yes!!!
First of all, I took a workshop with her at home almost two years ago now, and it just completely changed my life. I literally mean that. When I went and danced in front of her and talked with her afterwards (she gave a huge question and answer session where she said many similar things), I was able to realize that even if I wasn't born with a ballet body, I didn't need to let that stop me from pursuing my dream of being a contemporary dancer. Because Mia taught me that I can fucking dance!!! And here I am, I auditioned and I'm at school now training to be a professional modern / contemporary dancer!
I owe soooooooooooooooooooo much to her beautiful inspiration!!!
I love her to death, and she totally needs to start creating that huge show that'll beat out Cirque... only in dance form... and she needs to hire me for it in 2 years when I graduate haha! Now THAT would be a dream come true!!!
:)
♥ MIA!!! ♥

ooooh my, hahaha well i practically wrote a novel about the experience since i actually do pinpoint it as a moment in time that changed my life. i felt it then, and now looking back it really did chance the course of my entire life... i wouldn't be here right now in toronto studying dance if not for that day.

here's the link to my mia-filled amazing day:

I've never heard of her, but she sounds amazing. I think anyone who wants to work outside the boundaries in such a positive way would be absolutely mindblowing to work with. Especially the comment about not having a dancer's body - I think that's one of the reasons I love burlesque, because there's not an ideal shape (although having some curves to shake never hurts!)

I'm about to start taking ballroom & latin though, so it makes me all warm & fuzzy to see that there are awesome people out there who want people to be the best they can be without having to conform.

And the Cirque du Soleil thing cracks me up; they were set up right outside my work last year and for like 3 months going for walks along the lake during lunch became impossible because of all the fencing/building stuff.

She is an extremely fantastic choreographer. She does mostly contemporary stuff. And my god yes, she'd be fucking amazing to work with.

AN JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I COULDN'T LOVE HER ANY MORE.

I mean, not that I ACTUALLY thought that, but...you know. I was at a dry period where my love for her wasn't increasing freaking DAILY like it has been known to do.

BUT OH MY GOD.

I LOVE that she can have that vision and be so aware of herself and her strength and her creativity and awesomeness.

Everybody should move differently, everybody has a different... everybody's different, everybody's from... where we come from, through our body types, through our cultures, through our - the way we hear music, through our training, through every. single. thing. so WHY would we want to dance the same? Do you know what I mean? Why. You're different, so be different. Be it. Own it. And just... explode with your individuality."And just...gah, I can't even come up with sufficient words for my reaction to this ( ... )

I KNOW, SAME.

I know, right? I'm in a really big wave of her these past couple of days. When she hits me dude, it's HARD.

I love that she's so aware, too! I think her awareness is one of her most important and unique qualities, it makes her SO good at what she does.

I wish I would have been into her back when I was dancing everyday. I feel like she would have made all the difference.

THAT DANCE IS THE MOST EPIC THING I HAVE EVER SEEN OH MY GOD I GET GOOSEBUMPS WHEN I EVEN *THINK* ABOUT IT. LIKE RIGHT NOW. I HAVE THEM. can I ask you what you think that dance is about? because I really don't know. I mean i have theories but I cant figure out exactly what it is she's trying to say - did she ever talk about it? i dont remember, i dont know.

YES OH MY GOD IT WAS KHERRINGTON AND TWITCH TO DREAMING WITH A BROKEN HEART. ONE OF MY FAVES.

KHERRINGTON! That's it -- I knew it started with a K, but I was TOTALLY blanking on her name.

I really need to get that song, too. It's lovely.

THIS DANCE. Every Monday after I watched Dancing with the Stars, I would go back to my room and watch this dance and Dancing and Mercy (which is totally different, but very awesome and fun -- do you know it?). ♥

can I ask you what you think that dance is about? because I really don't know. I mean i have theories but I cant figure out exactly what it is she's trying to say - did she ever talk about it? i dont remember, i dont know.In all honesty? I have kind of given up trying to give it a story because there are, to me, several meanings/stories that could go with it. And I think it has a meaning that may be different to different people. Sometimes, I will watch it with a particular goal/story/message in my head. Most of the time, though, I will just watch it for the dance itself and let it become what it is, to me, even if I don't know what that is ( ... )

I know, it drives me nuts though. and yea i havent seen her talking about it so im not sure.
