I'm pulling a response to

question;
The death penalty. For or against? I automatically go to "against". Because no one has the right to "play god", as it were, and does it really make us any better than the perpetrator? And the perp is a human being as well, they may have committed a horrible act, but they have a family as well. They're someone's son/daughter, someone's husband. They're leaving someone behind. It's never just one person who dies. But, butbutbutbutbutbutbut. BUT. What if I were the woman who's child that man had raped and murdered? Would I want to see him die and burn in hell? Of course I fucking would. I think that when you're asked, "are you for or against?", people automatically go with what is PERCEIVED to be the morally and socially acceptable answer, like "against". But when you think about it, what if it was you? What if that was your child that person had killed, your brother, your sister, your mother, father? And then those who are automatically FOR it, I think they need to ask themselves, what if that was your father behind the glass with the needle in his arm?
liss' thoughts;
What are your thoughts on the death penalty? Is it legal where you live? Are there certain circumstances in which you'd like to see the death penalty used, and certain circumstances in which it IS used and shouldn't be? How does this affect you?
Seriously, I could care less, I think. I heard somewhere that it costs just as much to execute someone as it does to keep them alive in prison? If that's the case, edit: it costs MORE I guess, so yes, keep them alive in prison so they can spend every fucking day thinking about what they did wrong (however, if it were cheaper just to execute them, I'd be for it. No money should be put towards keeping that scum alive, especially when people, GOOD people are starving to death and living on the street). I am of the mind that in some situations, death is the easy way out and if these people did something bad enough to warrant an execution or life in prison, I'd not like to give them the luxury of death. I take no moral issue with execution or the ending of a life in these circumstances, although I know that is definitely a factor for some people. And truth be told, if my father or another relative or a friend of mine had done something bad enough to warrant execution, I don't know if I'd even feel bad. I'd probably hate them and want them to die at that point, and if they were to spend life in prison, I can't say I'd go visit them, either. They'd be dead to me either way, I think, I can't say for sure. What do you think about the death penalty? There are a lot of questions here. Don't be afraid to get into them and also don't be afraid to bring up new ones. It's a very complex issue.
