I seriously wonder about that contradiction... Did he actually criticize you for pointing out others' grammar errors or was that "just" other students' complaints about you? Maybe this is his way of telling the others that grammar is in fact important without addressing any of them directly? I don't know... that whole comment doesn't really make sense otherwise.

no no, HE actually told me that I shouldn't critique other people's grammar in this class because it's not a technical writing class, it's a literature class. and then he comes and tells me and everyone else that it all matters.

That's really mind-boggling then! Why bother about it then?!?! Stuuuuupid! I mean this whole comment is written like he really likes to listen to himself speaking! I don't know what his voice sounds like, but I can hear him, saying all this with a really important face, emphasizing certain words and... urgh! I don't know... this just really sounds way to much like my old German teacher...
Is this class important for anything? Because that would really suck.
