EVERY TIME I HEAR FROM THEM, IT MAKES ME WANT TO PAY FOR THEIR SERVICES EVEN LESS
This is what I don't understand: WHY do so many business operate on bullying? Because that's exactly what it is - bullying! And harassment! I don't know how invasive advertising is in the US but over here in Oz, it's AWFUL. We get lots of telemarketers, lots of hawkers (door-to-door salespeople, usually trying to sell energy like electricity or gas), a shit tonne of advertisements on TV, mail, people shoving pamphlets and shit in your face in shopping centres when you just want to be left the fuck alone to do your own thing... Even on cable TV out here, ALL of the shows and ALL of the movies have ads in them. ALL OF THEM. And they charge customers around $100+ a month to watch cable. THEY CHARGE THEM TO BE INUNDATED WITH ADS. It's terrible. It's CONSTANT. And yes, the more constant it is, the less and less I want to spend any money on said companies using such tactics to "advertise" and promote their business.
ITA with everything you said about The Orphanage. Really well done movie, so atmospheric and eerie with such a wonderfully artistically captured bleakness. Lake Of Fire and We Need To Talk About Kevin sound really interesting. I'm currently sick as a dog with chicken pox can you fucking believe, so will look into downloading these two. (This is Rach, btw. New journal cos I wanted a change at my journal but didn't want to spend $15 just to change the username.)
