My mom and her boyfriend came down to Jason's apartment to see it and to take us to dinner on Thursday. I asked him if he was sure it was okay - he said it was nice because his mom hasn't even asked to see it yet. It touched him that my mom cared but it bothers me that his doesn't. She and her husband are getting a divorce but still, god. MY mom ( Read more... )

I literally gasped when I saw the picture. I mean, I know you said it was good, but wow. I am so jealous. :o

Facebook has seriously only improved my life, I feel like the people I know actually know who I am now - seriously creative and opinionated and it's nice.
See that's something about you that I've always sort of... admired? You get on there and you show people and it always sort of works. I couldn't do it. And I mean, I'd say I'm barely half as creative as you, but people just don't understand you know? And it just scares me. I freak out whenever someone I know irl discovers even the tiniest fragment of my internet life.

AND BLUEBERRY KETCHUP? HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK?

I didn't always used to be like that, I completely understand the thought of nobody understanding. And it is definitely terrifying. But when I started editing dance videos or whatever and taking pictures when people asked, I realized that they were actually so much more supportive than I thought they'd be and little by little I stopped caring. It was a gradual process but now I'm fairly comfortable. I think it was weirder at the beginning because it was like I had you guys, and then these RL friends who didn't seem to really go(/live) on the internet. But now I feel like everyone's online so it bridges that gap a little bit. I also kind of adopted the philosophy that anyone who judges creativity and thinking and a meme-like sense of humor isn't really anyone I want to talk to anyway. It's the same with work - I've given up acquiring certain qualifications just for the sake of it because any organization who judges an applicant based on paper protocol over talent and passion is not one I'd ever want to work for anyway ( ... )

I'm so disgusted by that story, wow. Some people are the worst. AND NEEDS TO BE HIT BY THE KARMA TRAIN. I probably would have said the same too, like actually meet this conniving piece of shit and teach him a lesson.

DAT VIEW. I love that your boyfriend has an great appreciation for the aesthetics; he seems like an awesome guy to bounce off ideas with and incredibly thoughtful.

The FB thing....so many people don't get it (especially if they're extroverts, but that topic veers a bit). If FB were *replacing* face-to-face interaction, they might have a point, but it doesn't. It's *supplemental*. The choice isn't 'go out for coffee with Becky' OR 'comment on her status and call it good'. It's BOTH. And it might even be 'go out for coffee with Becky BECAUSE you commented on her status and you realize you like each other enough to get together' or whatever. I mean, for me at least, the choice isn't between FB interaction and face-to-face, it's between FB and *nothing*. How would nothing be better, exactly? Plus, my friends are strewn all around the world. Hard to just pop out for coffee with a friend in Germany.

You bring up a very good point re: supplementation. I wish I would have thought to phrase it that way but yes, that's exactly it. I talk to people on facebook I'd never go out of my way to talk to so it only really does help encourage social behavior. I've hung out with people in real life as a result of facebook as well, definitely. And I hear ya on the long distance friends!

Ha, I heard Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was horrible. I've NEVAR liked Katie Holmes and never understood why she got so popular. She's never impressed me at all.
