National Strawberry Shortcake Day planning

As many of you know, July 4th is my self-proclaimed National Strawberry Shortcake Day, wherein I hold a party and invite all kinds of sundry weirdos that I call my friends. It has become, over the years, quite the social event -- I think last year we hosted 30-40 people. It hasn't quite grown to the point where I need to hire a caterer yet,

Does knowing farther in advance help? Or is it a "the schedule is only made two weeks in advance" kind of thing?
