Who I bid for the Story Wars AU larp

Since Other People Are Doing It (tm), I figured I should, too. There aren't really a lot of secrets here, so I'm just going to cut and paste from my app.

Urban Fantasy: I guess this is a good place for Integra Hellsing from the anime/manga Hellsing in this category, since the setting is "modern-day London, with vampires." I wrote a little about what I liked about her here . In short: she's badass, somewhat androgynous, and has interesting power dynamics with the other characters. I've cosplayed as her (so I have--some!--costuming), and I spent the whole time smiling.

Villain or hero: Do I have to pick both? No? Well, let's go with Milady de Winter from The Three Musketeers as a fun villain. Yes, I totally played a version of her in King's Musketeers, and it was amazing, and I'd do it again. Reading the book itself, I felt like she got a bum rap just for trying to get along in the world, not doing anything worse than what the male characters did casually. She was conniving, and she was seductive, and she was as powerful as a woman could be in the 17th century, and that's what I love about her.

Science fiction: The obvious answer is Susan Ivanova from Babylon 5, if only because that was who I played in Clue Impaired, and I already have an Earthforce uniform ;) She falls into the list of characters I like for being badass and powerful. Being bisexual is fun, too :)

Fantasy: Oh! Any of the ladies from the Dragaera novels appeal to me. Aliera comes to mind immediately, for her temper and haughty Dragon pride and e'Kieron intellectual curiosity. And Sethra Lavode - incredibly powerful undead sorceress who is oh-so-modest in her own praise? why yes, I'd take that. And Tazendra - not the brightest bulb in the pack, but what I love about her is summed up by the quote I have about her on my FB account. Hell, even Cawti is awesome in her own assassin-y way (I also have played her in a LARP before). Although I kind of hated when she suddenly developed a conscience.

But Aliera is definitely the one I'm most like as a person...

Touch of insanity: I'm not sure this is someone I would want to play straight up, but my favorite touched-by-insanity character is probably Arthas from Warcraft III. His whole path from paladin to lich king intrigues me. Mostly I've always felt like his own drive to do good, plus family interference, put him in a situation where he could only hurtle towards his own destruction. I always dig stories where someone becomes the opposite of what they initially set out to do.

And I guess, hey, I also dig people who are crazy by dint of some sort of demonic/godly possession, cf. the Count in Gankutsuou, or Zane in the Mistborn books. (Is this largely a male trope?) That's also something I write about in my own work.

(Aside: I'm thinking I should have mentioned Ladd Russo from Baccano! Except I have no good reason except he's violent and says things like, "I love you. I'll kill you last!")

Others: Fiona from Burn Notice. I very much like her cavalier attitude towards violence, which is rare in a female character. What Michael says to her in the first season--"violence is foreplay for you"--is especially intriguing. I don't much like how catty and manipulative she is in relationships, tho. Also I look nothing like her actress, Gabrielle Anwar ;)

And that's my app, thus far. The overwhelming themes are power, violence, and weapons! No one is surprised.

I feel like I should have bid more characters, but I can't think of any others I'm really enamored of. I mean, I feel so-so about... I guess Mina Murray/Harker? Balnshik? But they're nothing I'm like OH YAY I MUST HAVE THIS about.
