X Things a Post Makes
- I made me a Tumblr. I'm not sure what to think about it. I started following a bunch of my friends and was immediately inundated by a wave of outrage and Avengers image memes, which left kind of a bad taste in my mouth. Plus there's something about the "most tumblogs don't have comments, so people show their approval/air their opinions by reblogging content" that really annoys me.
- Speaking of Tumblr, my one piece of content there right now is a picture of the moth I saw yesterday, which I'll share here, too:
With help from lightgamer, I've identified this as a Twin-spotted Sphinx Moth, Smerinthus jamaicensis. I'm very excited by this--I love taxonomy and species identification!--but I do wish I could have seen the hind wings on this specimen.
- Fencing last night - private lesson plus group class. Man, I suck. I just... I have nothing that recommends for me for this sport, and sometimes that's hard to bear. Everything I learn is hard won, and if I don't maintain it, it disappears. Last night we spent most of my private lesson doing footwork, because my footwork is HORRID. And ugh, my thighs hurt.
And then I got my ass handed to me in group class. In particular by a guy who's a new student, but who apparently studies another martial art--ninjutsu. I didn't even know ninjutsu was a martial art--it sounds like something a Naruto fan would describe themselves as studying--but apparently it is! Anyway, he was fast. I didn't have a chance against him.
I don't even know why I continue. I have no real talent in this direction, and it's going to take a ton of work to even be competitive. I'm not sure if it's worth the struggle. But it's fun? Rewarding? My coach is a big nerd who reads Child Harold's Pilgrimage for fun? I don't know.

_redfishie_ Today the temptation to run away to the sea or the circus is high.
hydemc @_redfishie_ Go with the sea; circuses are filled with people, and that's terrible.
kalandron @hydemc @_redfishie_ Possibly also rum, buggery and the lash.
_redfishie_ @kalandron @hydemc Annoying people can be thrown overboard at sea. At the circus, there is only giving them to the clowns...or the lions.
