Houston trip

Recently I went down to visit my folks in Houston, TX. My dad just got a new mechancial engineering job down there a couple months back, and I went over Easter to see their new rental house. And boy is it huge!

The weather down there was nice and sunny and warm, boy how I miss those days. Soon though. It starts warming up around here around May, and not as Godawful hot and humid as it is in my old home, Indiana. I hear it's getting nicer tempurature-wise now. I feel for you guys this past winter!

Anyway on the trip my folks showed me around my old town which I grew up in for the first 6 years of my life. And having visited down there number of other times over the years, I do remember it from more recent times.

The trees are very tall in the town of Kingwood, where I'm from, where my folks now live. Great middle-class suburban area that's far away enough from the city that you get some separation from it. Cuz I forgot how flippin' huge Houston is! We drove downtown once and that wasn't big, but the city area around and the highways....geez! Even bigger than Seattle! Just about as culturally mixed though. Although around here I noticed there are more Asian-Pacific people. Makes sense. This part of the country is closer to Japan and such.

On the last day before I had to leave we went down the Gulf coast to Galvaston Island, like we had a couple of years ago (we always go every time). Did some shopping, I got some swimsuits, I swam a bit, and then there was an Easter Vigil service that night in town, so we went.

It was refreshing to see my folks and my dog, whom I all dearly miss. They said they'll be coming out to visit me around May or June, when it gets nice here.
