I did my first spin class yesterday and well it was interesting...
Overall I enjoyed the workout, sweated a whole heap but I didn't push myself overly with the resistance as I didn't know what to expect, plus I had ridden a few hills Saturday. My leg's weren't really sore or tired feeling, so that is proof in itself that I could have worked harder. It didn't push my lungs as much as I thought, but maybe thats cos I could have pushed the legs harder.
I am not used to riding out of the saddle, so I think it will help with those muscles and technique for that. I also think it will help me more with my mental strength for when I am out riding and I am going up hills as the times of pushing hard in the class are for longer than I can normally stay focused for.
The bikes themselves aren't that comfy, I have sore wrists from the hand positions and I will definately wear knicks next time as the seats aren't that comfy either! Being able to use my riding shoes and being clipped in was really good and helped me cope a bit more with the no freewheeling bit. today I also have sore shoulders from it, nothing major, but it does show that the bike setup wasn't all that great for me.
While it isn't the same as getting out and riding, it is still a pretty good work out IMHO and will work the cycling muscles so it definately can't be a bad thing and can only help with my training that I need to do.
