Ice cream heaven

That's where my taste buds are right now. We bought the ice cream attachment for our KitchenAid mixer yesterday, and I whipped up a batch of vanilla ice cream batter to sit in the fridge overnight while the beating bowl froze. I realized a little late in the game that the heavy whipping cream I bought for the recipe included sugar and vanilla of its own, a little too late to cut down on the sugar in the batter, but I did hold back a little on the vanilla. Set up the mixer this morning and let it run for about 20 minutes... ice cream had about doubled in volume from the air being worked in, and into the freezer it went. Took a little taste before we headed out shopping a couple hours later, just to see... it's a potent vanilla, but it's pretty good.

I also made a batch of Alton Brown's chocolate syrup once we got back, which is still cooling on the counter. It made excellent chocolate milk, and I had some on top of my vanilla ice cream. Sooooooo good! My next batch will be Mint Chip, but I need to refreeze the bowl... maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. Need to get some non-vanilla whipping cream for that one. :) Cookies and Cream next? Oooooh. :)

Sam's working on putting together a new PC so he can do work stuff, and play the occasional game ... he has a few for his iMac, but it doesn't really have the video horsepower for the fast paced 3D games. We spent a good four hours running around to several shops for the parts... eventually settled on a slightly less powerful video card than he really wanted, but we couldn't find the one he really wanted anywhere. Hopefully everything will come together nicely and he'll have a great system to play with. I think he's trying to build a system that I'd want, but we'll have to see. :)
