41 years ago the spirit of music took a human form. In the last two decades it has grown and detailed itself. What was once only a voice soon became a being, a pure incarnation of musical vitality and emotion.

At first it could only move at moments, pulling people with it to the dance floor, to the floor of their kitchen, to the floor of their bedroom where its voice could fill their tired heads.

Gradually, it morphed and changed, a being no longer of simple beats and voices but of majestic and terrifying beauty and power, with the ability to evoke the most primal and the most sublime emotions within its audience. It began to turn even the most horrible and grating noises into melodies and messages, stuck on repeat in the CD players of thousands of listeners. It poured out pieces of itself into five-minute portraits, and then pulled from the bosoms of others sensuality, love, pain, anger, sadness, passion to see the light after years of repression.

Eventually, it transcended human limits, opened her audience's senses to a world of sound that had been brimming just below the surface, and then, she swallowed them whole. They still grow warm and blissful in her belly, listening to her heartbeat.

Happy bjirthday, Bjork. And thank you.
