I came to the conclusion that I read Rammstein slash because I like love stories. And I like them dramatic, weird, twisted. Somehow the plot type: ‘boy meets girl, they get married and live happily ever after’ never appealed to me. My favorite love story (and I read the novel when I was like 16) could be reduced to: ‘boy meets boy, they fall into lust, boy cheats on boy, boy tortures cheater to death and goes mad, builds a church where all the painted saints have the face of dead boy, except for Judas, who has his own face, evil church slides into the lake, boy drowns with it.’
Well, in case you ever wondered… yes, I am a FREAK.
But, you probably never read this novel. It’s by a Romanian writer, Eugen Barbu. Actually I wanted to write about Antinous. You probably know the historical character. Or read Marguerite Yourcenar’s book. He’s the young lover of Roman emperor Hadrian - he died very young, apparently he wanted to be the human offering in a ritual that was supposed to grant immortality to the emperor. Hadrian filled the Roman Empire with statues of him. A very easily recognizable face. Here are a few pictures:
A very pretty boy, isn't it?
