The Kanima, Matt, and timeline inconsistencies

One of the things I've noticed about Teen Wolf is that the show really has some issues with consistency and continuity errors. So it's hard to know whether a tidbit is a genuine hint/red herring/character development and when it's just a flat out screw up (*points to the box of Kleenex on Stiles' headboard when he hands Lydia a roll of toilet paper ( Read more... )

You know, I always knew that the lights flashing across the street were Derek & Scott but I never connected the dots that it was before Matt became the kanima's master.

It's an interesting question and I'm with you, I'd like to this it was intentional and that, on some level, Jackson wanted Lahey to pay for what he was doing to Isaac.

That being said, one of my followers/someone that I follow on Twitter is actually getting the chance to go on the Teen Wolf set and he might possibly meet Jeff Davis. He's been asking for potential questions for the cast/crew since last night. Mind if I feed him this question and see if we get an answer? ^___^

Oh my god, I would be ecstatic if you would give this to him to ask! Because this is something that's been bugging me for a long time and I was hoping we might get more answers in season 3, but now that Colton's gone, I suspect a lot of the little things about Jackson are never going to be answered, so if we could get an answer directly from JD, I would be SO HAPPY.

I will definitely pass it along, then, and let you know if we get an answer!

There are a lot of things that, as a writer, I want to know about, too. With writing my own TV show, I think about the little things a lot - in Episode X, we need to at least catch a glimpse of this because it becomes important in Episode Y, etc - and so when I watch other TV shows, I start thinking about what's deliberate and what's not. XD

Oh, I am obsessed with things like this. And I never actually know whether some of the things I notice are intentional, or whether they're just continuity errors. I don't think Jeff Davis focuses quite as hard on continuity as some of the other genre writers simply because he came from doing procedurals, which don't require such strict continuity (and don't inspire such obsessive fans). But this particular situation really does feel intentional to me. Sort of like the whole thing with Kate perving on Jackson in season one. That was obviously intentional, but wasn't horrifically creepy until you found out what she did to Derek.

Colton Haynes got another job on another show. Actually, he quit Teen Wolf before he got the other job, but yeah, he's not coming back. Gage Golightly isn't coming back either, so no more Erica, which really upsets me. I'm just hoping that they don't kill her off or something. I'm hoping that Boyd will have some throw away line about Erica getting away from the Alpha pack and running, and them getting separated or something, rather than having firm proof that Erica's dead.

Continuity errors are frustrating, as are badly-tied up ends; I've yet to watch TW (I know, my bad) but I think in storytelling on screen, continuity must be one of the hardest things to get right. And Colton is leaving? LOSS OF EYE CANDY ALERT!

Yes, sadly, Colton and Gage Golightly who plays Erica are both leaving. I'm so sad because I think a lot of Jackson's story is going to be lost because of Colton's choice.

On the bright side, the new Alpha twins and the Alpha leader are all going to be a whole barrel full of eye candy. Shirtless pics of the twins have already been released and HOLY HELL. *fans self*

Teen Wolf doesn't do a terrible job with continuity, but it doesn't do a wonderful job with it either. And you never really know for sure if something's a continuity error, or if it's actually going to come up in future episodes. Like this thing with Isaac's dad and the Kanima, or like the fact that Derek says there were 10 people in the house when it burned, but the paper said eight bodies were found (you can count Peter as being in the house, but Derek and Laura - the only other known survivors - were at the school, so they don't count, which means there's a missing person in the count).

I noticed this, but it never seemed like an inconsistency to me - this is actually just exactly how I interpreted it! :) I'm not sure if Jackson was aware of what was happening to Isaac (although I feel like the closeness of their houses could have been intentional for this reason), but I think that overall, the Kanima could probably sense what kind of a person his father was.

Oh, he was definitely aware of it. He's the one who told Sheriff Stilinski that Mr. Lahey had hit Isaac the night Mr. Lahey got killed. He also told the sheriff that Mr. Lahey didn't just abuse Isaac, "He kicked the crap out of him." So he was fully aware that Isaac was being abused. He blew it off as being "none of my business" when the sheriff asked him why he never reported it to anyone, but I feel like there must have been at least some part of Jackson that did care about what was happening, and maybe when he was in Kanima form, that translated to the Kanima going after Mr. Lahey.

Ack, you're right! And I did know that at the time, I just desperately need to re-watch the last season before starting the new one XD
