I can't remember if I've told you guys about how Munchkin has developed this new obsession with sewing. A few weeks ago he was bored, and complaining about it because none of his friends were home, there was "nothing on TV" and he was tired of playing on the computer. So after throwing out a couple of other suggestions, I just randomly said, "Do you want to learn how to sew?"

I was shocked when he said yes. And then I had to madly scramble through my stash to find something that he could do. I pulled out one of the blocks for my Mystery Quilt block of the month and figured he could probably handle doing that. I cut the pieces with the rotary cutter (I'm not quite ready for my 11 year old to use a tool that could potentially cut off his finger), but he did all the sewing all by himself. I showed him how to line up his seams, but then he did it all himself.

This was the result. Look what an amazing job he did!! Even his points are almost perfect. I guarantee you that my first attempt at quilting didn't result in points like that!

Then this past weekend he begged me to let him sew some more. So I cut some fabric and let him make quilted Christmas ornaments.

The last one actually would have looked better if we'd been able to use the green snowflake fabric for all the green squares instead of just the corners, but there wasn't enough of it left, so we had to use the music note fabric to finish the block. He did a really good job!

Now he keeps wanting to make a whole quilt, so I've decided that next week, when he has to be up here for swimming lessons, I'm going to bring my sewing machine and set him up on one of the little tables and let him sew this quilt:

I told him I would applique the ghosts for him, but that he could sew the rest of the quilt. He's very excited!! I will have to keep you guys updated on his progress.
