Following Florence, I spent a few days back in St Andrews, then I ventured off on my first visit to the former Communist Block. Prague is a great town, but I think that there's a danger that it could turn into the next Amsterdam. Beer there is very cheap, but is swiftly becoming Westernised, with Staropramen, the Czech Republic's biggest brewer now owned by Bass. For the first time in years I willingly drank draught lager, instead of my usual Guinness or real ale. It was really nice, far better than the rubbish that's available over here, and the bars seem to treat the beer far better than over here.
I have different sexual tastes to some of the people I was in Prague with, and we visited a gay bar. It was the first one I'd ever been to, and all the cliches seemed to be true; from the leather to the camp bartenders. We also went to an American style cocktail bar, which I was fairly impressed by, especially the practical training of the bar staff, to a level not often seen on this side of the Atlantic. Their theoretical knowledge seemed to be a bit lacking though, as one the menu they had Sloe Comfortable Screw without vodka and a few other such faux pas. As is my wont, I sat there and drank Caipriniahs (sp?) for a few hours, until it was time to return to the hotel and a small non emergency.
Overall it was a really good time, and as BMIbaby flights are now available from Edinburgh, I'd advise everybody to go before it changes.
