PS3/Wii/360

Recently Drew was telling me about people on the web talking about how Sony will deny warranty if you use any cables that are not approved by Sony.........this was not true, and suprisingly both the Wii and the 360 have a nearly identical clause in their warranty info.

The PS3 excerpt:

"(2) THE PRODUCT IS USED WITH PRODUCTS NOT SOLD OR LICENSED BY SCEA (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NON-LICENSED GAME ENHANCEMENT DEVICES, CONTROLLERS, ADAPTORS AND POWER SUPPLY DEVICES). YOU ASSUME ALL RISKS AND LIABILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH USE OF THIRD PARTY PRODUCTS. "

This is what stemmed the rumor. "This problem was first found be a user over in the AVS Forums who called Sony with a broken PS3. When he told them that he hooked up his console with generic component cables, they told him that his formerly-under-warranty repair would cost him $150."

What they didnt tell you was

"What occurred here is that this guy used 3rd party component cables hooked to Sony’s Proprietary Multi AV connector...then he screwed up the Multi AV!

Why would Sony fix something when somebody hooked up something to a proprietary port?"

Now lets take a look at the 360 warranty info:

" This Limited Warranty shall not apply and Microsoft has no liability under this Limited Warranty if the Xbox Product:

is used with products not sold or licensed by Microsoft (including, but not limited to, non-licensed games and game enhancement devices, adaptors and power supply sources) or which are otherwise incompatible;"

And the Wii

"THIS WARRANTY SHALL NOT APPLY IF THIS PRODUCT: (a) IS USED WITH PRODUCTS NOT SOLD OR LICENSED BY NINTENDO (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NON-LICENSED GAME ENHANCEMENT AND COPIER DEVICES, ADAPTERS, AND POWER SUPPLIES);"

So no.......Sony isnt being ridiculous, they have the same warranty as everyone else. It was all a rumor spread by misinformation.

Also, I have yet to be able to find anything supporting the claim that the Wii is shipping 160,000 units per week to the US, care to share a link?
