(no subject)

Because my weekend was full of boringness and depression (WAH! U-M lost to OSU!) I have decided to fill out this meme that I've seen around and about. Yes, it's a holiday wishlist meme and yes, that must mean I'm a selfish ho. Consumerism is, after all, the American way.

Seriously, though, I never know what to get people for the holidays and we all invariably get things that we don't want, so this really is a neat way to get the message across without seeming too greedy.

Step One
Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. World sanity. I think peace is a little much to ask for (and a trifle cliche) but if everyone decided to act in a sane, rational manner then peace would be the definite end result.
2. Voice lessons. I miss those days and I would start taking again in a heartbeat if it weren't a choice between that and eating.
3. A new president. Don't get me wrong, I'll work as hard as I can to mitigate the probable horror of the upcoming four years, but wouldn't everyone's life easier if the shrub was just quietly replaced?
4. Books. I love books and I know there are many that I would like that I don't even know exist, let alone have the forethought to pick up off of a bookstore/library shelf. Used, new, it's all the same to me.
5. Music. This is much like the numbers 2 and 4, a thing I adore but don't have the money to devote to it. Burned cds, mixes, emailed mp3s, I love it all.
6. Shoot, I have an Amazon wishlist that has a lot of neat stuff on it.
7. Icons. They're pretty and I have little time/talent with which to make them.
8. Donations to Toys for Tots, the Red Cross, a local food bank, any local (for you) charity.
9. Cards and/or postcards.
10. Fish and a tank to keep them in. I may not be able to have a dog and I can't get a cat (as that would make the Pup jealous) but I think a fish would be okay.

Now, go forth and fill this out for yourselves because I really want to know what you all want for the holidays!
