This Monday will be my first official work holiday. I am honestly at a loss as to what I want or shall be doing. It has made me realize how quickly I have adapted to the "typical" work week. Waking up before the sun rises on Monday, working nine to five, commuting via public transportation (which I enjoy greatly - I probably shouldn't because Atlanta is not at all commuter friendly, but I do), and having my weekends free.
I am still not falling asleep at a "decent" time, but I don't think that will ever happen. It's that whole nature and nurture thing. I stayed up too late for a tiny young'un back in the day, much to my mother's dismay, and then my grandmother started working nights, so I would stay awake with her while she got ready for work. By the time I hit middle school, I began to realize that I could be alone with my thoughts and odd quirks when everyone was asleep. Also during that time, I picked up my reading habits by a trillion percent because I discovered the library down the street and, therefore, spent many nights reading into the wee hours of the morning. From then on out, I was destined to be a life-long nightowl.

[Please excuse me while I dive into a tennis rant about the
French Open.]
Rafael Nadal is the best, especially on clay. So it really annoys me when people start doubting him because he loses a freakin' set in a match. The amount of negativity that falls on him when he drops one silly game in a match is unbelievable. He lost two sets against John Isner in the first round because Isner doesn't necessarily suck. He is also ranked in the top forty, and the #1 player usually does not play someone ranked even in the top 100 in the first round. It was going to be a close match from the get-go because Isner has that monstrous serve, and Nadal let two of the sets get to tiebreaks, and tiebreaks are always dangerous when you are playing against someone with an amazing serve.
However, not at any point did I think that Nadal was going to lose that match. He is a prideful bull who does not let one point go against him without fighting like the Spainard he is. Also, on a technical tennis note, Isner sucks at retuning serve. He's not aggressive enough when he's not serving, which translates into him not being able to break the other player's service game. And you HAVE to break in the 5th set in a Grand Slam because there are no tiebreaks in that set. Also, to beat Nadal, you have to do something fucking brilliant to get even a point off of him.
In the second round, Rafa played Andujar, who took the third set to a tiebreak but couldn't convert it into a set win. Of course, what most people talked about was how Rafa almost lost a set and would have had to go through four sets to win (or maybe not win!) because Andujar almost won one set.
Yes, okay, Nadal did not lose one set last year during the entire Open; and yes, he had never dropped a set in the first two rounds of said Open, but come on! Did anyone see how unbelievably well he played during the last two sets of the first match? Or how he came back and won in the final set yesterday when he was down 1-5? Who does that?!
Also, when will people realize that Nadal ALWAYS comes back. In 2009, when he lost to Soderling (who I truly cannot stand) because of his knees and his family falling apart, everyone was like, "Oh, well, that could be it for the champion." Oh, really? REALLY?! Well, he came back less than a year later and won THREE GRAND SLAMS IN A ROW.
So, SUCK IT, haters.
*sigh*
What I am trying to say is, leave my Spanish Bull alone. His pride, work ethic, and out of this world skills will see him through and to the top like they have since 2005.
