RAII? What's that? Here in the land of Linux, we initialise things in an ad-hoc fashion and smooth over this abysmal design with buckets of programmers!

This is particularly surprising:More copies of the game were sold via our website on the day the Linux version released than any other day. This day beat the previous record by 40%. There is a market for Linux games after all :)

VPN under Linux isn't supposed to work.
When writing PulseAudio, did they pilfer all the suck from NetworkManager? I mean, I had to install the network-manager-pptp package, and although that gave me the VPN menu without hassle, I needed to reboot to get the damn thing to show the list entry for my new connection so that I could use it...but it ( Read more... ) -

gnome-power-manager. Xubuntu. I've set it to not autostart with my X session, and that works. Unfortunately, it is an insistent little pest, and will pop up in my system tray at odd times, such as when CD burning, or sometimes with other system tray tools. pstree shows the parent as init, which isn't very helpful.

Eee PC annoyances, stage one.
- Fresh zap + updates = 347MB free of a 4GB drive. Yay, unionfs giving me two copies of OpenOffice. That "fresh zap" is "mkfs on the user partition" is cool, but they should probably have seen this coming.
- Xandros, like Ubuntu of late, ships with broken Vim. Unlike Ubuntu, full-blooded Vim does not appear to be in the standard repositories.
