[ Godric's face appears on the screen and, for a moment, he looks a little confused. Then he sets it down, peering at the camera with slight nerves. He wasn't used to the technology of the future - give him swords and magic over these things any day. Still, he has things he needs to talk about, so he would have to learn to adapt. ]

I would like to ( Read more... )

[video] As if on cue --- wwaterbearer February 1 2011, 15:27:45 UTC
You humans just don't bloody understand it, do you?

A course not --- if there's anythin' you don't understand, it's alw-ways fate, or destiny, or magic. "Magic" is for little fakey fake grubs to play w-with in their stupid fuckin' rounds of playin' pretend.

"Science" comes in a bunch a different forms back in my w-world, and I am a w-wizard a w-white science -- w-which is just as dangerous as the rest, mind you, it's fuckin' deadly.

But there's just too many to list, I'd hawe to leawe it up to you to figure out.

Magic is certainly not pretend, and I have many years of experience to speak from. I am afraid that, perhaps, our worlds are too wildly different.

[ He pauses, but nods. ]

Science can also be incredibly deadly. You are correct.

Alright, alright. It's not "pretend" --- but it is science. You humans, callin' it by the w-wrong name ewerytime I talk to you -- it's fuckin' irritatin', as a man a science.

Perhaps it is the wrong name where you come from, but I have grown up knowing it as 'magic' and nothing more. I apologise if this upsets you, but it is habit and one that is unlikely to break.

There is no magic where I'm from... Not that I know of, at least! Science is my 'magic'. I wouldn't even be alive if it wasn't for science, so it's definitely a kind of 'magic' to me, even if others don't think so...

You're from 1014 right? So you don't know about all the things that science can do now! Or even about things like gravity and other laws of science, since those all came later.

I am sure that some would see Science as a form of magic. It works in strange ways.

[ He looks a little confused. ]

I have no knowledge of these things, you are correct.

The ways aren't so strange when you know more about the laws of nature.

Gravity! Gravity is the force of attraction between masses. It's what makes things fall and keeps the air and the atmosphere on the Earth.

There are mathematical equations you can use to predict speed and potential energy from gravity, too. And then there are other physics equations and laws that are really neat! Like Conservation of Mass and Energy, and Conservation of Momentum! You can figure out the time it will take for something at x mass and speed to run into another thing with y mass and speed.

[He is ... kind of a physics genius without meaning to be. oh, Air Treck. /)___(\]

... I see.

[ He totally doesn't. ]

It seems like quite the difficult process.

The only magic I know of has to be used by witches.

Then your home must share some similarity to mine - for it is witches and wizards that have magical power where I hail from.

I haven't heard of any wizards since Eibon. [He pauses, thinks a second, turns the screw in his head.] ..No, just Eibon. Since then, there have only been witches.

I see. Where I am from witches and wizards are quite similar in number - I myself am a Wizard.

I never really thought there were different magics until I came to Vatheon. [But the prospect is a little exciting for the young summoner. She smiles.]

There are only a few people who choose not to use magic where I come from. Or rather, they prefer machina over magic.

But those who do use it study either white magic or black magic, depending on what they're interested in.

I had not considered it either. Such deep thinking was not something I have ever been accustomed to - it was more for my friends than I.

[ He listens intently, desperate to learn. He has to remember these things to pass on to Rowena, after all. ]

Could you explain the differences between 'white' and 'black' magic?

Reply

[Video] grandsummon February 1 2011, 23:27:47 UTC
Of course! [She takes a second to ready herself before looking back at the screen]

There are a lot of different kinds of black magic spells but most tend to be elemental - Fire, Water, Lightning, and Ice. I can't say too much, as I'm not a black mage, but I do know that all of the spells are used to weaken an enemy.

White mages, however, defend and protect their party. Their strength lies in the healing arts. Though, there is one powerful white magic spell I haven't learned yet. [She smiles shyly] It's... a little hard.

With time and practice, some spells evolve as the mage develops. But the more difficult the spell, the more energy is used. Some spells can only be cast a few times before the mage has to rest.

I... don't know if that answered your question. But I hope it helped!

May I ask what kind of magic you do?

Ah, I see. The differences are offensive and defensive - an interesting distinction. Thank you for explaining.

[ He smiles and lifts his wand, holding it gently. ]

I am capable of all kinds of magic. The spells I have learned are not merely offensive or defensive; they have a broad range of focuses.

The only sort of "magic" we had back home was for show; just flashy performances and tricks of the hand.

[video] lionshollow February 1 2011, 22:44:46 UTC
A false kind of magic, I assume?

Reply

[video] isoluminol February 1 2011, 23:19:44 UTC
Some might say all of it's false. The "magicians" back home are just performers, but there are people that believe it.

I can assure you that my magic is no performance - that would be an abuse of the gift.
