As I waited for my glasses to be done correctly, I wandered around downtown. I'm not much of a shopper so aside from getting a pair of running shoes, I didn't have much to do. Sears was having a "TransCanada" Sale and were offering a free paring knife up on the fourth floor. Free is good, so I headed up.
And there I was treated to entertainment eons old. An honest to goodness salesman. He was good, too. He travels, selling his knives "as seen on TV" They slice tomatoes, cut through hammers and take bits off of wood blocks. All very impressive. My favourite part though was when he told us the price, then added, 2 more knives for free, 2 paring knives, and 2 little juicers. He had the patter down, the sense of urgency, paired with tension, cut with jokes.
People have been selling like this forever but you don't get to see such people much anymore. It was great fun.
