When Lionel wakes up, he's almost half surprised he's done so naturally; he's sure he isn't the only one who had a hard time falling asleep the night before, unsure if another day like last Halloween would be there when they woke up. The boarding house is as quiet as it has been since the events a few months earlier, and he finds the silence comforting. No screams, no yelling, nothing like what had greeted them the year previous.
He takes a moment to take everything in - the quiet, the sunlight streaming in through a crack in the curtains Kate made for him, Peter breathing slow and even against his neck. Lionel decides it's going to be a good day, and he'll find some way to get Peter to dress up in something, even if they'll have to resort to the bedsheets. Turning, Lionel stretches a little and settles again, this time watching Peter sleep.
The tranquility lasts for all of a minute before Lionel brushes hair out of Peter's face and skims his lips over his forehead, his cheek, his jaw.
