Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Squall is 177cm tall (a bit over 5'9") and very fit thanks to a lifetime of physical training. He's lean rather than bulky, but has a good bit of muscle definition, especially in his upper body as a result of slinging around a big damn heavy gunblade on a daily basis. Like so.

2. How old is he?
Eighteen... probably. Twenty cycles of the war between Chaos and Cosmos confuses things a bit. But we'll go with eighteen.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
When he's standing, his posture shows the marks of his military training - spine straight, shoulders squared - as well as a certain level of perpetual coiled tension that's just him. When he sits, however, he hunkers forward, and braces his elbows on his thighs or whatever else is in front of him in a generally avoidant pose.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Between his physical training and the augmentation he receives from his junction, Squall is in very good shape and generally at the peak of fitness; he can take more punishment than normal humans and recovers more quickly. The only issue he has is the shoulder that Edea put that spike of ice through, which bothers him a little when he's very tired or when the weather is very bad.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Squall's movements, like his stance, give the impression of tension. He moves with the same kind of blunt directness that characterizes the rest of his behavior, with a high degree of control over his own body.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He's your standard Final Fantasy prettyboy; Rinoa called him the best-looking guy at the SeeD graduation ball. Squall himself occasionally wishes that his face were a little more masculine, but otherwise doesn't waste a lot of thought on his appearance - or rather, he's more concerned with the image he puts forth (see question #12 regarding wardrobe for more on that).

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
He has fair skin and a clear complexion marred by an assortment of scars, of which the one across his forehead and the bridge of his nose is the most prominent. His other scars are mostly hidden underneath his clothing, like the one on his shoulder where Edea impaled him, and various others that he mostly doesn't really remember the origins of any more.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
His hair is brown, straight, and fine in texture, and he wears it short but tends to only remember to get it trimmed when it starts getting in his face a little too much - and then half the time he just hacks off the offending length himself to get it out of his eyes, so sometimes his bangs are kind of choppy.

9. What color are his eyes?
Blue.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Aside from what's already been mentioned, the only other point of note is that his left ear is pierced; he usually wears a silver stud earring.

11. What are his chief tension centers?
What aren't? He carries a lot of tension in general, but it especially tends to center in his back and shoulders.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Squall is, as mentioned, careful about the image he presents, and he chose his civvies with the specific intention of making himself look tough and unapproachable: lots of black, lots of belts, and his signature black leather jacket with a white fur collar that evokes a lion's mane. What isn't specifically chosen to add to that image is chosen for purely utilitarian purposes.

He's not as glued to that image as he used to be, and when he's feeling comfortable enough he'll skip some of the edgier elements of it and just go with what's functional and comfortable, usually your basic (white or black) t-shirt, (blue or black) jeans, and boots. If he's not trying to project a specific image (generally either "unapproachable tough guy" or "military professional"), he doesn't really give a rat's ass about fashion and leans toward the plain, simple, and unimaginative.

He usually wears gloves, partly for utilitarian gunblade-wielding purposes and partly to minimize the skin-to-skin contact he has to make with other people. He also has a penchant for silver jewelry - this started with his ring, which he no longer has, and was another way to help craft his image, but by now he's gotten used to the necklace and earring and wears them out of habit as much as anything else.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Squall doesn't often seem really comfortable to begin with, but he's much more comfortable in the clothes described above or in some form of his SeeD uniform, all of which fit him reasonably well. If he has to dress in anything else, it makes him distinctly uncomfortable.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Back home he has a formal SeeD uniform that is, at least in his case, mostly reserved for dress occasions. Aside from that, his clothes remain pretty much the same on or off the job, save that while he's working he'll always have the full complement of belts (to support the weight of his gunblade) and probably the jacket.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
He sounds like Doug Erholtz! Or Hideo Ishikawa, if you prefer. Either way, his voice is pretty deep for an eighteen-someodd-year-old.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Squall normally speaks with a distinctly flat inflection. He's not much of a talker and doesn't like to waste words; his speech is blunt, to the point, and rarely burdened with social niceties.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He doesn't particularly have an accent or any noticeable quirks. His word choices tend to reflect that he's a teenager whose education has been more practical than intellectual; he's not given to using big words and his diction is kind of informal unless he's in a (military) situation which demands more formality.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
We'll call it English, for convenience's sake. Anyway, he only speaks the one language.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Not really.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He's not a good speaker in general; he prefers action to words. He can make a pretty good speech when he loosens up and honestly speaks from the heart, but that doesn't happen very often.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He's about as articulate as your average teenaged boy, maybe a little moreso, not exceptionally eloquent - although as mentioned, he can do a pretty good rousing speech if he lets loose and doesn't think about it too hard.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's a pretty smart guy, though not genius-level, and better with practical knowledge than with purely academic learning.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He's very much a planner, and prefers time to think his actions through. Too much time to deliberate, though, and he'll think himself in circles until he freaks himself out; he's at his best when he can reach a decision and then act on it immediately.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Squall is very practical and very analytical. When he's working towards a goal, he practically thinks in flowcharts; he's constantly evaluating his past actions and trying to anticipate what's coming next. When he doesn't have specific goals to work towards, he ends up spinning his wheels, thinking in circles about things that are bothering him and stressing himself out until he's unhappy and exhausted.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
He was educated at Balamb Garden, a military academy for a mercenary organization. He is special forces trained and his education was primarily a practical one designed to prepare him for the battlefield, though it also included more general-purpose education and some unusual odds and ends: he can, for example, dance a waltz, and play the piano (music classes having apparently been a compulsory part of SeeD training, if the fact that the entire rest of the team was able to pick up instruments and put on a decent performance on a couple of hours of rehearsal is any indication).

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Squall has mastered the gunblade, which is a perniciously difficult weapon to learn to use thanks to the awkwardness of its combination design; he's mastered it to the point that he's able to make the strange balance and the recoil of the firing mechanism work for him, comfortable with it to the point that he can blind-fight with it with minimal loss of accuracy.

In general, he's well-versed in a broad range of combat skills, including hand-to-hand combat and a variety of weapons. He's trained in first aid and survival both wilderness and urban, and in the handling of many types of vehicles, enough that when confronted with an unfamiliar vehicle (like, say, Balamb Garden) he can typically at least guess enough at its controls to keep it from crashing horribly. He's also fully-versed in para-magic and junctioning Guardian Forces and is capable of using his junction to its full effect, of which summoning and casting magic is only the very first step.

At this point he considers his training as complete as it's going to get, and though he's aware that experience will always teach him more and more as he goes along, he's not really looking to expand his knowledge in any specific areas. Unless it'll help him get home. Then he's interested.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
100% introvert. He's not a social person, isn't much of a talker, is bad at expressing himself and frankly finds being social tiring.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Squall keeps his emotions bottled up and doesn't express them very much or very well. He is insecure, pessimistic, and inclined to privately dwell on and internalize worries and frustrations until they build up to the point that he simply can't deal any more and erupts with no warning. He's a creature of habit with very little imagination, and left to his own devices he would follow the same routine methodically day after day. When he has a goal to accomplish, however, he pursues it with dogged determination - when it's a goal that has personal significance to him, he can become very driven indeed.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Squall does not deal with change well. He approaches new people and situations warily, reluctant to get involved any more than he has to and slow to open himself up to anyone he's not well acquainted with.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
He's a very goal-oriented person. If he's set a goal for himself, or had one set for him, he'll act to accomplish it without hesitation. Without a clear goal, however, he slides easily into apathy and downward spirals of thinking too much until something happens to kick him out of it.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight fight fight. It's what he was trained for from the time he was little. He's capable of grasping the concept of a tactical retreat, but he's a stubborn bastard who's hard to dislodge from his course of action once he's chosen it, so he'll typically only flee when it's clear that doing otherwise is going to get him or his allies killed.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He has a sense of humor, but it's very deadpan and doesn't surface much. Mostly he takes things a little too seriously, though he can get snarky at times.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
You could make a strong case for him having schizoid personality disorder, although he's made some progress in overcoming his difficulties in connecting with other people thanks to Rinoa and his other team member's efforts in getting past his defenses. In any case, there is No Therapy Ever in FF8-world; he deals mostly by way of the thought patterns described above, which usually don't help very much. It takes outside influences to kick him out of unhealthy spirals of depression and doubt.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Ellone's disappearance and the lack of emotional support he received from the adults in his life after it had a profound and formative effect on Squall's entire personality. More recently, his acceptance of the idea that his role in defeating Ultimecia is his "destiny," and his realization of his feelings for Rinoa and the decision to act on them rather than continue to deny emotional attachments, have both served as significant turning points in his life.

14. What does he fear?
Squall's greatest fear is rejection, loss, and abandonment. In his worst moments this can manifest as a certain horror for the simple concept of time passing, because it reminds him that nothing in life really lasts forever and that change and loss are to some degree inevitable.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
Currently, his overriding goal is to get back to his own world and keep the promise he made to Rinoa to meet her in the flower field outside the old orphanage.

Aside from that, he's honestly not a very ambitious person. He doesn't have any specific hopes or aspirations for the future beyond getting back to the people he cares about and staying with them for as long as possible. Any other goals set between here and there are likely to be simply ways to fill the time.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Squall perceives himself as emotionally weak, and most of his standoffish persona is a facade to keep anyone else from seeing how afraid he is of rejection and loss.

He also never, ever, ever wants to have to admit to anyone that he tried to kill himself in the D-District prison.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Ahahahahahahaha.

Squall's father is Laguna Loire, Galbadian soldier cum freelance journalist cum president of Esthar, their world's largest and most technologically-advanced nation. Laguna is a big dork. He also had no idea for quite a while that he even had a son; he and Squall did not meet in person until Squall was seventeen, and neither one of them has yet actually acknowledged their relationship to the other. Squall has, however, shared some of Laguna's past through Ellone's power - he wasn't aware of their connection at the time and was largely unimpressed. During the Chaos War, he and a young Laguna served together as warriors of Cosmos, but due to the combination of memory loss and Laguna being 27, neither of them was consciously aware of their relationship at the time.

His feelings regarding Laguna are currently rather complicated. Intellectually, he recognizes that it wasn't Laguna's fault that he ended up at the orphanage and was brought up in SeeD - and anyway, there's that whole "destiny" thing - but he still struggles with some resentment over the fact that he spent so much of his life alone only to learn that his father was in fact alive and prospering the whole time. It doesn't help that he doesn't have much respect for Laguna, though he recognizes at this point that Laguna is a good bit healthier emotionally than he is.

His mother, Raine, died shortly after he was born, and Squall doesn't know very much about her. Ellone's power allowed him a brief glimpse of her through Laguna's memories; he's left with an impression of her as a practical, no-nonsense woman, and he feels as though she was someone he could respect and would have liked having as a mother. He regrets never having had the chance to know her himself.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
He has no blood siblings.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He doesn't have any other blood relatives that he knows of.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
In a sense, all of the orphanage kids could be counted as Squall's siblings, but the only person he really ever thought of in that way was Ellone, who was his older sister in every way that mattered during the orphanage days. They were very close during that time; Ellone was the person he went to for comfort and emotional support, and was the most important person in his world up until her disappearance.

Her loss, and the loss of his memories of her, put an end to most of that, not helped at all by the fact that she chose to use him to try to change the past without approaching him directly or explaining anything at all, leaving him to piece things together himself. It's left a wedge between them that he'll probably never truly get over.

His foster parents from the orphanage days, Cid and Edea Kramer, are also worth mentioning here. He hasn't really thought of Cid as anything but the Headmaster of Balamb Garden in a long, long time; he lost some of his respect for the man after seeing his emotional weaknesses exposed during the fight against the sorceress, and Cid summarily dumping command of SeeD on his shoulders without warning him beforehand didn't help with that, either. He has more respect for Edea, who he feels handled her own struggles against Ultimecia as well as anyone could be expected to; he doesn't really hold any of what happened against her and she's still something of a maternal figure to him, the closest thing to an actual parent that he can really think of.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
If you asked Squall who his best friend is, he would have no idea how to answer that question. He has an all-or-nothing approach to personal relationships; he's close to someone or he's not. He's unquestionably closest to Rinoa, but that's something that's on a whole different level entirely.

Of his friends, the one he gets along best with and is able to understand the most clearly is probably Irvine, thanks to the simple fact that (after their initial rocky start), Irvine has the fewest behaviors that Squall finds irritating and in fact they have very similar damage (although their coping mechanisms run in opposite directions). They were kids together at the orphanage, but Squall really doesn't have any significant memory of Irvine from those days; more meaningful to him is the fact that Irvine, of all the members of his team, did the most to pull the rest of them together and keep them centered during the buildup to the fight with Ultimecia.

6. Does he have other close friends?
His other close friends are his team: Zell, Selphie, and Quistis. While fighting for Cosmos, he also became close to Bartz and Zidane, and developed a healthy respect for the Warrior of Light, although the circumstances of the Chaos War meant he didn't form the same level of closeness with his fellow warriors as he did with his team back home. Nevertheless, for Squall, friendship is mostly an all-or-nothing affair, and he values all of his comrades, even the ones he didn't interact with very much during the cycles of conflict.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Ahahahahahaha.

Squall has a lot of difficulty letting people close. He's not determined to avoid human contact like he used to be, but he's still wary of investing too much emotionally in others who aren't likely to be around later on; he's brusque, blunt, and doesn't like to reveal too much of himself to others, preferring to hold them at arm's length until he gets to know them well enough to feel that he can trust them. Which takes a while.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Squall's friends are much more a family to him than his actual family has been, thanks to his upbringing. If it came to a choice between them, it wouldn't be much of a choice.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He's not married, and never has been.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Squall loves Rinoa, and is absolutely, almost obsessively devoted to her. She comes before anything else in his priorities; he is her knight, and if she really needed him to, he would cut his own throat for her without flinching.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
By the time he hit puberty, Squall was already determined to remain alone, and it was only Rinoa's influence that broke him out of that. As a result, it pretty much begins and ends with her. His emotional makeup at this point isn't really equipped for "crushes" - he just doesn't allow for a lot of middle ground between "acquaintance" and "incredibly important person."

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Squall responds most to people who clearly express to him that they care about him. Honestly? That's pretty much it. It helps if they also have a more optimistic, here-and-now personality to help balance out his pessimistic, analytical nature, but mostly, Squall craves unconditional affection and acceptance and he reponds to anyone who offers it to him, which is why he responded so strongly to Rinoa: she was the first person since Ellone to actually tell him that she and the rest of his team cared for him in terms he could understand.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nope, no kids. Squall has honestly not thought about the possibility of having any, and if he did, he'd be pretty sure it would be a terrible idea.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Squall has a long-standing rivalry / enmity with Seifer - "long-standing" as in "basically their whole lives." Throughout their Garden careers, Seifer pushed Squall to get a reaction, and Squall refused to back down, leading to a nearly constant string of fights and both of them getting something of a reputation as troublemakers with Garden faculty. Seifer getting manipulated onto Ultimecia's side turned it into a full-fledged enmity, though as the conflict wore on and it became more and more clear how Seifer was being used, Squall came to feel more sympathy than anger toward him. There's never been any kind of resolution for any of what happened, and Squall's feelings regarding Seifer are still very conflicted.

He's also got a personal enemy in the person of Ultimecia, the sorceress. Indications are that Ultimecia grew up hearing stories about Squall, the "legendary SeeD" who defeated the evil sorceress and stopped her attempt to dominate the world. Needless to say, she bore a grudge. In his own world, their direct interaction was minimal, but she did possess and control first his surrogate mother Edea and then Rinoa, who she abandoned in space to what would have been her death if Squall hadn't managed to save her, so Squall also bears a grudge. Facing each other more directly as warriors of Cosmos and Chaos only deepened the enmity on both sides, particularly since Ultimecia impersonated Cosmos to try to manipulate Squall and probably managed to mind-control him into fighting on Chaos's side during at least one of the earlier cycles of the conflict.

Squall actually understands Ultimecia's motives better than possibly anyone else; the impression he's gotten from their limited interaction is that her desire to compress time stems from the same kind of loss and desperation to avoid further loss that caused him to try to cut himself off from other people, and he's aware that she was likely persecuted for being a sorceress. Her actions haven't left him with much sympathy for her, though.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Squall is roughly a 3, maybe a 2.75, mostly because his ability to feel attraction to someone is driven far more by his need for affection than it is by anything physical. If Rinoa had been a guy, he'd still have fallen for her just as hard.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Sex is an intimacy that Squall has never felt comfortable enough with anyone to explore at all. Even Rinoa, for whom he would cut his own arm off if she asked him to, has probably got her work cut out for her in that regard. That's not to say that he never feels any sexual urges, but he represses them or deals with them privately rather than deal with the awkwardness of making himself that vulnerable to another person. He'd do it for Rinoa - and it would be very awkward and embarrassing for a while until she managed to get him to loosen up - but it would take a lot of effort for anyone else to get close enough to him that he'd allow that level of intimacy.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Frankly, he has no idea. He's had no sexual experience to date, and it's a subject he's mostly avoided even thinking much about.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Squall's birthday is August 23, which makes him a Virgo on the cusp between that sign and Leo, combining traits of both: he has the pride, stubbornness, and deep loyalty of a Leo, and the self-contained, meticulous, diligent, practical and analytical nature of a Virgo.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Religion isn't a big part of any of the cultures of Squall's world (at least not that we can observe from what's seen in the game) - the mythology of the world says it was created by Hyne, a god who is described as being more or less a lazy jerkass who is not really worshipped by the inhabitants of the world he created (trying to steal a whole generation of children will have that effect). It certainly hasn't been a big part of Squall's upbringing. He's had direct experience with gods in the persons of Cosmos and Chaos, but it hasn't left him inclined to see either of them as beings worthy of worship. In general, he's just not a spiritual person. He does, however, have a sizeable fatalistic streak: his experience has taught him that things happen because they are meant to happen, whether one likes it or not.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Squall's code of ethics is that of a mercenary: once he takes a contract, he follows the orders of his client no matter what he thinks about it personally. He does not, on the whole, believe much in the concepts of "right" and "wrong"; he accepts that each side of a given conflict has their own reasons and believes that right and wrong are in many ways subjective, dependent on one's point of view.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
As a result of believing that right and wrong are subjective, Squall is pretty tolerant of others' beliefs unless he finds them so impractical that he feels the person is setting themself up for trouble and pain down the road. Aside from that, he mostly doesn't care too much.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
If Squall has a prejudice, it's against the kind of optimistic, idealistic, seat-of-your-pants intuitive spontaneity that characterizes the behavior of people like Laguna. It grates against his cynical, analytical, and professional nature and gives him a low opinion of that kind of person's intelligence, especially if they're in a role that he feels demands more professionalism and careful planning.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Squall is in the financial situation of most imPorts; he's got the standard stipend and, between the free MAC housing and his tendency not to spend much, it keeps him afloat. Presumably he's also going to have some loot of some kind from clearing out the Major's bunker, which will give him an additional financial cushion.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
In his own world, Squall is a SeeD, a position which commands both respect and a certain degree of wariness, depending on how you feel about military organizations in general. At the time he was taken from his world, he was in fact the Commander of SeeD and the primary person responsible for defeating the sorceress and preventing her domination of the world, though he hasn't really had the opportunity to find out how that kind of information is received by anyone outside of SeeD.

In the City, he's an imPort. That's pretty much it.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He lives in the imPort housing at the MAC, which is pretty much in line with what he's used to; when not out in the field in his own world he lives in the Balamb Garden dorms. About the only difference is that the MAC doesn't have a convenient cafeteria, infirmary, and training center. He keeps his room in the kind of order you'd expect from a guy who grew up at a military academy.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Not much. Back home he occasionally bought books and magazines (mostly related to his profession such as Weapons Monthly magazines), and whatever accessories were needed to present the image he wanted to present. He'd count anything else, such as weapons upgrades, potions, etc., as "basic necessities."

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's a mercenary, and he's very, very good at it. "Enjoy" doesn't really come into it; he was raised to be a SeeD and it's really all he knows how to do. He can't concieve of trying to find another line of work.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
As far as hobbies go, he plays Triple Triad, a card game unique to his world. Aside from that, he spends most of his time either training or thinking way too much - more the latter than the former lately, since there's no readily accessible source of monsters to kill in the City.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Squall grew up eating cafeteria food, with the end result that he'll more or less eat whatever you put in front of him. Only since graduation into SeeD has he become introduced to the concept of eating out, and only since his arrival in the City has he really begun to be completely and solely in charge of what he eats.

The result so far is that there's not a lot of imagination in what Squall eats. There's a small selection of things that he can cook decently well, and that's what he eats, at roughly the same time every day, because he's a creature of routine when circumstances let him get away with it. He doesn't drink alcohol because he's too young to buy it, but he does drink very bad coffee and it doesn't occur to him to mind.
