As some of you may remember, I wrote a World of Warcraft Dictionary for my History of the English Language final paper about a year ago. I'm working with the same professor now on my thesis, which is about the lexicography of WoW. Currently I'm just working on updating the dictionary to include WotLK information, but I'm writing a paper to go along with it (as sort of an introduction) that focuses on the social aspect of online gaming, wow in particular, and the need for that social structure to be successful in the game.
(I'm particularly excited about writing about the history of Lookingforgroup)
For those of you on my FL who play WoW, any input or opportunity to bounce ideas off of you would be more than welcome. I would also appreciate a few extra pairs of eyes to glance through the finished dictionary and give word suggestions or tweaks to definitions.
One thing in particular I'm struggling with currently are the three class separations I've created. I subdivided the classes into Caster Class, Hybrid Class, and Melee Class, but the latter doesn't seem like the best word to describe those classes since Hunter technically isn't melee. DPS class also doesn't work because DPS includes casters. Physically Damaging Classes is wordy and also innaccurate for Hunters. I could, potentially, add another subclass, Ranged Classes and just have hunters in there, but that feels wrong too. And Death Knights complicate that too. Hm. Any ideas are welcome.
PS hilarity = explaining what WoW is to an elderly english professor.
