Hallowe'en in Mystic Falls

Tonight's episode certainly had a Hallowe'en feel to it what with all the ghosts' floating about. Mind you, it could be said that every day is Hallowe'en in a town where supernatural entities abound ;)

Firstly, I need to SQUEE and FLAIL some for the re-appearance of PEARL, GRAMS, LEXI, and even Uncle Mason!!! Thank you very much show for bringing together some of my favorite pairings (be it besties, or family).

Anna and Pearl getting to have that moment at the end before they went back to 'The Other Side' was wonderful!!!

I brushed away tears when I saw Grams (even though Bonnie isn't doing much for me ATM). It was wonderful that Grams showed up to help Bonnie restore balance. I loved the scenes with the two of them. I don't know what it is about Grams (Sheila), but I emotionally connected with her right away, and her death was the first time I truly cried watching this show.

Lexi may not be high on my friends list, but I do admire her determination, and constancy when it comes to rehabilitating Stefan. I didn't really understand how she was speeding up the detox timeline by getting into Stefan's head, but she wasn't going to stop until Stefan felt something. Having Elena there to witness was definitely what she needed to see in order to progress to where she could let him go. She needed to tell him what the consequences would be if he didn't fight this, so that she can let go feeling that she did everything she could, and NOT feeling any guilt. Another thing I'm not really clear on is whether it's really possible for Stefan to overcome Klaus' compulsion through sheer force of will. I thought that an Original's compulsion would be super-strong and therefore unbreakable.

This episode painted a somewhat confusing picture of what 'The Other Side' is for supernatural creatures. Several ghosts say they are all alone, but then others seem to communicate with others over there.

Even though there wasn't a single scene with Damon & Elena in it, I was happy with the parallels in how they learned things. Elena telling Jeremy that he's holding onto the past definitely hit home with her (and she repeated it to Stefan later). Similarly, Damon's 'apology' to Mason rang hollow as he said it to him, but later was sincere when he told Alaric; adding that he meant it. Yeah that their bromance is back on the mend!!

Another thing, I found myself wondering how Elena would feel if she found out what Damon experienced this day. I could feel the pull towards one another throughout the episode, kinda like not seeing each other will have an impact when they do come face-to-face again. Of course, that could totally be my shipper heart doing some wishful thinking. ;)

I wonder what Damon meant by a skew in his Mikael plan? I refuse to believe that Katharine is truly dead.

I enjoyed Mason & Damon bonding even if it took me awhile to believe it. Mason wanting to make things better for Tyler was great. Mason's attitude is what made the image of 'The Other Side' seem bleakestto me - if he's willing to get past Damon's rather vicious slaughter of himself, then it must be pretty bloody lonely over there (excuse the pun).

No Klaus, or Rebekah, or Tyler this time around.

I LOVE KICK-ASS CAROLINE defending her bf's mother.

Jeremy and Anna's kiss was so sweet. While I don't think he was treating Bonnie very well, I can totally sympathize as I know all too well the loss of a lover suddenly and without warning. I know I couldn't resist the temptation if my partner came back, even for a day. [OMG that was hard to write, it was 2 years ago today that she passed away]

Those etchings on the wall under the Lockwood property looked a lot like Klaus' Mayan scroll.

There was no preview after tonight's episode, so I'm wondering if next week marks the beginning of re-run fillers.

All in all, this was an enjoyable episode. I'm very interested to see what's going to happen next.
