TVD 3x06: Damon & Elena Scenes - quotes & my thoughts
I enjoyed Smells Like Teen Spirit so much that I wanted to do a post showing Damon & Elena interacting and thought I'd include why I enjoyed each scene. If you're not interested in my thoughts, then maybe you'll enjoy the pictures and quotes ;)
Damon & Elena's phonecall
Damon: We have a new housemate: BarbieKlaus.
I found this scene enjoyable for it's simplicity and having them back on good terms again. Elena's stubborn insistence that she's fine along with Damon's usual looking out for her best interests were amusing and fun (especially after the tension and conflict between them lately). It set the tone for their interactions, which only got better and better as the episode progressed. :D
Damon & Elena in the workout room
Elena: "Like one obnoxious Salvatore isn't bad enough."
Elena: "Then do it for me, Damon. Every single time I look at him, I feel like I'm going to break and I'm not going to give him that satisfaction."
Damon: "...that's your way to a vampire's heart."
Damon: "I'll do whatever it is you need me to do, Elena. No one's gonna hurt you, especially not my brother."
Aside from the incredible UST in this scene (which I was squeeing over, of course), I loved it for the way they worked together here. It was so nice to see Elena accepting Damon's help, even though she hadn't asked for it. His motives are simply that he wants her to be safe and she's showing how she's matured in that she's not fighting him tooth and nail about anything related to her protection.
Their chemistry is consistently otherworldly and this scene is certainly no exception to that. I liked that Damon didn't push this interaction further than it should (as he's been known to do in the past). He was showing her how to best defend herself against his kind - pure and simple. While I'm sure he noticed her physical reaction, that wasn't what was driving him. I also liked that Elena was aware of her reaction and didn't try to cover it up or dimish it in any way.
Damon & Elena's in Alaric's classroom
Damon: "You're forgetting a key player here: Rebekah. Wherever Stefan goes, the blonde ponytail tends to follow."
Elena: "Which is why it's your job to keep her away."
Damon: "How? She's an Original. Last time I checked; we're out of daggers.
Elena: "So then, preoccupy her with your charm."
Elena being the ring-leader and coming up with a solid plan was the biggest factor in my enjoyment. I'm loving the way she's thinking on her feet and setting out to do what needs to be done. I'll never get tired of the back-and-forth banter between Damon and Elena. Also this scene had interactions with almost the whole bunch of them, and that is always entertaining in my book.
Damon & Elena's at the Boarding House
Elena: "You had Rebekah drooling all over you and your marshmellows."
Damon: "I thought you were too drunk to notice."
Elena: "I was faking most of it."
Damon: "So was I."
What I loved most about this scene (that I have admittedly re-watched many, many, many times) is the quietness, and openness, and honesty of it. Elena was the most open with Damon as she's ever been, and Damon returns that in kind when he utters that last line to her, affirming that she's still the only one that he wants. His tone of voice was just a shade softer, and him looking down showed such vulnerability. This short scene also showed that he wants to be the one taking care of her (even something as simple as applying ointment to a burn). Her letting him (as well as the look they shared immediately following), to me, suggests some acceptance on her part of his feelings for her. All of this in under a minute of airtime. :D
