Well, yesterday was spent helping
lostdreamer666 with his Series III engine swap - the associated tasks, anyway. All in all I think we had a reasonably productive day. The main things we achieved were: draining and removing the petrol tank, removal of both front wings, removal of the battery tray, cleaning one side of the chassis in the engine bay (cleaning of the other side did start, but wasn't completed as the current engine mount needs to be removed first), and further degunking of the replacement 2.5NAD. We also managed to use the engine hoist to position the new engine more or less where it should be, so there's now a clearer idea where the new engine mounts should be. (EDIT: The doors were also removed as well. Forgot that bit!)
Both me and Dave were well impressed with the overall condition and solidity of said Series; it will be a cracking vehicle when it's sorted.
The reason it's a small world is that
covltwt , who was one of those who also turned up to help, is a fellow LRUKer, and the garage we're using actually belongs to a chap called Jim, who started at Land Rover in the same graduate intake as me and Dave! All very unexpected. But quite cool.
This morning, I am aching a bit. I used a wire brush attached to a drill to clean the chassis rails, and I've obviously used muscles which aren't used to it; right between my shoulder blades, for some reason (are you surprised I went for the one task which involved a power tool?). Luckily, I've stopped sneezing underseal and chassis paint dust (when we were kindly bought a Maccy Dees, I think I put people off their food when I blew my nose. That's all I'm going to say!).
In other news, thank goodness it's a bit warmer. Although I'm quite impressed that my hands and feet didn't go completely numb yesterday!
